729185 2008-12-15 03:14:00 Just received an email with the standard bank phishing scam in it. (Outlook picked it up as Junk mail)

It says it is from the National Bank in the From field but everything in the body of the email is for Westpac :lol:

Good old Firefox blocks the page any way.

We had several phishing scams, none of which were from Westpac (whom we are with), and often several from the same bank.

729187 2008-12-15 20:40:00 Even if a phishing scam does manage to elude your defences, how is it that anyone with their eyes and ears open are fooled by such an obvious scam?

"You do not divulge your username, password or pin number to anyone." How many times a day do you hear that? And yet there are still silly people out there who are quite willing to disclose that information! Incredible!

Firms that rely on junk mail for their advertising, realise that most people throw it away. Most firms are happy with a one or two percent return. I understand that is about normal.

If they have less than that with their phishing endeavours, they must be doing quite well and I am certain that they are more than satisfied.

If you are interested in keeping your computer more secure from phishing and other problems, you may find the latest episode of the BBC programme "Click" interesting.

news.bbc.co.uk and look for the heading: "Cyber Crime Attack From The East" and "How To Keep Your Computer Secure." You will find a few other helpful tips as well.

The programme "Click" is broadcast every Tuesday morning at 0430 (NZDST) on BBC World which is re-broadcast on TV One.
