728084 2008-12-12 06:32:00 Yesterday while out shopping for presents at St Lukes, I came across this (www.sony.com.au) laptop at Bond & Bond with a "Full HD" sticker on it, like the ones on the full high def TVs. Then-after looking closely at the specs-I discovered that the highest resolution it could display was 1680 x 945, which I thought wasn't Full HD. The salespersons then corrected me-he said that TVs and Laptops had a different "full HD"

Question: Do laptops and TVs really have a different resolution for HD?

Cheers

728087 2008-12-12 06:47:00 sure, Until they release an even more awesome format, and some even more high resolution screens, and call that True full HD Ultra.

728088 2008-12-12 06:53:00 If pressed, they will reveal that "Full HD" on a B & B laptop means there is so much bloatware installed that there is no more room on the Hard Drive. ;) R2x1 (4628)

Exactly what I though-until the stupid salesperson came along pretending to know everything!

I swear, most of the time the consumer knows more about the product than the salesperson....

728091 2008-12-12 08:25:00 I prefer them to tell me they don't know, Nothing worse then having to stop em mid-sentence, Tell them they have no idea what they are talking about and to go away immediately. Metla (12)

That never happens to me-the salesperson just reads out all the specs to me.

e.g I ask "What's the battery life of this laptop?"

Salesperson: "Well......I'll take the battery out and show you, if its big it'll probably mean a longer battery life.

At that point I decided to just find out myself.

*sigh*

728093 2008-12-12 17:42:00 Full HD Stickers mean that the computer is capable of Full HD Output, either through the VGA/DVI port or the HDMI Out

But that's still a massive resolution for a screen :O

Go back and give him crap

Anyway, who needs salesmen? You're a pressf1 member, all the salesmen you need are right here :D Well the ones that will give you an honest opinion and help you and not the company you're buying from :)
