838429 2009-12-10 10:04:00 Hi Guys,
I am trying to help a friend get online.
I am starting to draw a blank so thought I'd call on some wiser heads :)

He is a post- hippy off the grid in a caravan. No debt what so ever even :D
He wants to get a netbook as they are small and robust for backpacking out to the friendly local library with its wifi.
What are his choices getting online back in the caravan ? :)

Is it woosh etc or does he resort to the vodecom special offer.
$99/mth 'free' 'T stick' 36 mth one kidney plan ?
I wonder how many Nanas get sucked in by these horrific plans?

thanks for any ideas :)
Pete

838432 2009-12-10 10:32:00 Plug into Metla's power supply :p. Its probably a vodem, or woosh. Unless telecom have something cheaper. Looks like telecom's mobile broadband is prepay (99 for the modem). So, at least when he runs out, he cant use it till he fills it up Speedy Gonzales (78)
838433 2009-12-10 10:32:00 Park the Caravan up by the library. Metla (12)

838435 2009-12-10 10:41:00 Some of the netbooks do have a 3g device built in, all you need is a sim card I think. CYaBro (73)

Untowable...It will never get a warrant :D

838437 2009-12-10 19:55:00 vodem is horribly expensive. has a 10meg (yes that meg not gig) daily limit then your charged per meg after that. fine for doing emails but once updates kick in.....$$$$.
a mate did have telecom wirelesss and cost $1000 in the first month. i don't know how much data that was tho.

what power supply to the caravan does he have?
i would look at 2 way satellite.
