727870 2009-01-29 21:30:00 you drive fro 30 odd minutes to someones place, spend lets say two hours working on their PC - at the end when you go to get paid - they say " oh I cant pay you till next payday which is two weeks away" --

What are you going to do about it, you have done the work and deserved to be paid. ?? ??
Take it away with you.
I would.

727871 2009-01-29 21:45:00 This is where imaging is good, I always take an image before I start.

You can show them the working computer, if they cannot pay, just put the old image back.

most of these jobs would be quoted first wouldnt they? so condition of work is to be paid in full at completion of work?

I have had that happen a few times - Some people seem to think because you go to them, they can pay when it suits - Couple of times had people say that to me when I called to advice the PC was ready, and checking when they would be home - they said couldn't pay till next week - so I say "give me a call when you have the money and I'll bring it back" - I had advised on a price beforehand - baring anything unexpected - amazing how fast the next week comes around sometimes - like 1-2 days later :D

I also take an image in spite of the fact that I state that I will not be responsible for loss of data. After all every computer user backs up, copies all the important stuff don't they.

What do you charge for making the image then putting it back?
Have you been paid for doing so?

I had one some time ago where daddys daughter put a heap of MP3s into a directory within Windows. Daddy did not know they were there so therefore when I reformatted because that is what he wanted the MP3s went as well. Not the first place I would look for music either I must admit.

727875 2009-01-31 22:50:00 If any info like a distributor price page would be nice just so I can see what the markup etc is . . . But it is just an interest on top of my day job, not looking for a big income, jus a part time role really .

The V700, I have not used a cheaper or fancy one so I cannot compare . What I can say is that the colors come out pretty good - better than mini labs and more like a pro lab, v little color cast and you can scan higher resolution and then import into photoshop etc . So yes, it is nice . Thou if you are just shooting 35mm film, I may get the Nikon Coolscan V cos it is around the same price and it is a dedicated scanner and pple say it is sharper .

For myself not sure if I am getting that or a medium format version, not sure if I will be shooting 35mm and or medium format down the road .

Hey Nomad,

Can you email me, bigal . nz ( at ) gmail . com about the Epson Scanner?

Cheers
