728483 2008-12-13 08:50:00 My guess would be to try sliding the bulb sideways if other angle pressures have failed.

But (as you know. of course) the foolproof version entails going to a lighting shop & checking out the same type of bulb.

Yes, boring...

728484 2008-12-13 09:20:00 bulb pulls off , pull directly away from the wall.

once you have the bulb off, you should find two large screws that hold it to the wall.

+1

Pull it off STRAIGHT though.

Yes that worked perfectly. We had tried gently pulling but a good tug was in fact needed. OK once you know that is the correct method.
There is only one screw holding it to the wall and I am not expecting any further trouble except - the thing has been used for over 10 years and comes on every time the bathroom light is used (often as it is a rather dark room).
We have had several main bulbs go in that time including one of the so called long life jobs. So what happens when I need a replacement for this bulb - are they available - I have never seen any before myself and neither had the several people congregating in the room and trying to get it off.
I thank you too Metla. Your method was highest on our list if nothing else turned up. The hammer has been rested.
Glad to see my title invited curiosity!
