727842 2008-12-12 03:40:00 While we're slagging cars lets mention all the Yank Tanks designed to go fast only in a straight line . Corners are not allowed . . . . . . . . . . . . . . And lovely pieces of joy like Ford Pintos . . . . . . . and . . . . . . . . . . and . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Funny you should mention the Pinto/Capri there .

It was a UK/Deutschland hybrid-design . The Taunus engine was a Nancy-boy and it had the nice habit of eating up the fiber/fibre timing gears all the time .

The fuel tank placement was designed by Toshiko Yamaguchi, the sole surviving Kamikaze pilot from WW-II .

Besides, there are only straight lines from here to NY anyway! Nya . . and anyway . . . . . the shortest distance between two points . . . . . . . is . . . . . . . (fill in the blank)

727847 2008-12-21 02:38:00 What was that movie where the Pinto got a small nudge and burst into flames?
One of the Leslie Nielsen "Naked Gun" series.Based on the fact that a design flaw in the Pinto meant that if it got hit from behind while indicating, the spark would ignite the fuel tank... Ford found out about it, did the math and worked out it was cheaper to compensate the victims families rather than change the process to prevent it from happening. Thumbs up Ford- NOT!

Tunable engine or not, it's no good if you're sitting in a fireball...

Pinto would be safe as in Auckland if indicator use causes the fire.
