838335 2009-12-10 06:59:00 HOW far exactly is this PC away from the router?? It maybe too far, why it cant get on the net. Is the wireless secure? What encryption are you using? On the PC that cant get on the net, have you put anything under the adapter's properties (like put in the DNS server ips)?? Go into its properties / TCP/IP, put your ISP's DNS server ips in on the bottom Speedy Gonzales (78)
838336 2009-12-11 00:40:00 I've done the corrections in Hijack this and there is still no internet connection.
NOD32 is working although not a startup program and is doing a scan at the moment, and afterwards AVG 8.5 will do a full scan to make sure there are no viruses or spyware.

838337 2009-12-11 00:45:00 It's not to do with the distance as another PC further away has access and this computer still connects to the modem it is just anything that requires uploading or downloading info such as browsers and updates. It is using WEP at the moment and still connects to the internet in Xubuntu. Not sure if the adaptor properties have been changed from default but I think it hasn't changed since when it had a connection.
At the moment I am thinking it is malware because Xbuntu always gets a connection.

838338 2009-12-11 00:47:00 Get rid of AVG, you dont need 2 AV programs. Could be a driver prob then, update it if there's an update. Since it seems to work fine in Linux Speedy Gonzales (78)
838339 2009-12-11 01:11:00 I don't think the drivers would be an issue although I will have a look for it.
I use Ubuntu 9.10 on my PC and I mostly have a connection and when I use Vista Ultimate and Win 7 RC the connection is moderate at best and drops out quite a bit but I can still do things on the internet most the time.
Also I just got the drivers for my adaptor to see if it would improve anything on my PC and I'm not sure how to use the files to update it as it is a zip that extracts to become 2 System Files, 2 Security Catalog, and 2 Setup Information files.
I will unistall one of the AV's if the scan results come up with nothing though.

838340 2009-12-11 01:20:00 Go to device manager, dbl click on the WLAN entry / driver tab / update driver. Point it to the folder with the inf file in it. Speedy Gonzales (78)
838341 2009-12-13 00:58:00 Driver wouldn't install to the PC so it must be up to date.
The Adaptor is a Dlink DWA - 110 and the drivers were a 9.6MB download.
An suggestions now? Reinstall Windows or buy a new PC?
Civic (15464)
838342 2009-12-13 01:16:00 Probably reinstall windows. Altho, XP may not be the prob, it maybe the wireless adapter. So, even if you reinstall XP, and if you use the same adapter, you may have the same prob

Is this what you've downloaded? (www.dlink.com.au). Is that the version that shows under the adapter in device manager? 1.30

838343 2009-12-13 01:42:00 Yeah thats the one that I downloaded, but reinstalling would be the last option that I'd take and was wondering if there was something else that could fix it. Civic (15464)
838344 2009-12-13 01:52:00 Well, see if it connects with cable, the adapter maybe faulty or something. Not much else you can do, besides either testing it with a cable. or replacing the adapter Speedy Gonzales (78)
