| 731052 | 2008-12-19 19:58:00 | What a chaotic mess in Zimbabwe! The new 10 BILLION dollar note (edition.cnn.com) will now only buy 20 loaves of bread (but probably not tomorrow when it may only buy half that amount). Will another country invade and take over? Will president Robert Mugabe be assassinated? Will the UN and African Union be powerless to save the people there? Where do you think Zimbabwe will be, in a year from now? 5 years? Just wondering, folks. PF1ers seem to be an astute lot... |

Will the UN and African Union be powerless to save the people there? Yes - they haven't done much good elsewhere . Where do you think Zimbabwe will be, in a year from now? 5 years? Overrun by jungle, population driven back to the stone age . The place is a disaster, but Mugabe has a death-grip around the country's throat that is going to be (and has proven to be so thus far) extremely difficult to prise off- and the longer he's there (in denial, or maybe just doesn't care) the worse it's going to be be the general populace . |

But I wouldn't hold my breath and another strongman will come and take his place. Amazing transition from bread basket of Africa under white government to disaster under black government. |

The UN and AU are useless. This is the problem you get when white men drew the borders in Africa. Zimbabwe is made up of two main tribes who do not like each other and who do not like one from the other one being president/prime minister/king. This is true of many African countries. |

As what happened to Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia, the best future would be have Zimbabwe split in two new countries. |

This is the problem you get when white men drew the borders in Africa . I think not . I think he'll keep trashing the country until he dies . Loads of citizens will die of disease, fighting and hunger . The Africans have always done this - who sold slaves to the white men in the first place? They did . Its nothing to do with white, black or green . People are basically nasty and power-hungry . Most of us never have the opportunity to find out what our own behaviour would be like if given the chance . |

| 731061 | 2008-12-20 07:58:00 | I was talking to an ex Zimbabwean farmer a few days ago. He said the key infrastructure is the dams and underground water pipes. They are still in place. The land has had 6 or 7 years rest. If Mugabe was gone it is likely a lot of farmers will return. In 2 -3 years Zimbabwe could be producing heaps of food again. | wotz (335) | ||
