730876 2008-12-19 02:38:00 Hi folks,

I'm an irregular poster here but I thought you might be interested in this new group we've launched and our first campaign which is against laws coming into effect that mean that internet and websites will be taken down after accusations of copyright infringement, without a trial or due process, and without punishment for false accusations.

http://creativefreedom.org.nz/

It sounds absurd, I know, but as you'll see on creativefreedom.org.nz there are quotes from all kinds of large organizations against this. If you disagree with these laws please sign the petition,

If you have any questions about the group just let me know, thanks!

730877 2008-12-19 06:58:00 Do you have the ammendment anywhere? I've been following the issue for awhile now, but have yet to read the actual text. Kindel (6640)

You can find it here,

Some rather good analysis has just come out from InternetNZ about this:

"Urgent action is needed on Section 92A of the Copyright Act. In February this will force Internet providers into an unprotected regulatory role, cutting off customers on behalf of rights holders, and is counter to the critical role of the Internet in business and family life. [...] a policy which reverses the assumption of "innocent until proven guilty" for alleged copyright infringers, through a poorly conceived "repeat infringer" clause (Section 92A) introduced after the Select Committee stage of the Bill. The danger is that mere allegations of copyright breaches will lead to cutting off citizens' and businesses' Internet access, with no appeal available and no judicial decision forming part of the process"

I've heard that many people in Auckland central were very angry at Tizard for pushing this unjust law.

730880 2008-12-20 07:16:00 Hi Hollway I just signed the petition as I think this law would be a backward step. My grandparents fought to gain freedom of speech against the Nazi terror machine I believe we should fight to keep it gary67 (56)

Tizard is one of the biggest Fwits I have seen go to Parliament for many years. She has an attitude of let them eat cake and to hell with all you plebs not on my wages (campaign contributions from the entertainment industry?? ) . Thank god she has gone.

730883 2009-01-09 06:38:00 No, the big corporations and the government are behind this, there have been a number of incidents over the years where a web site has had info on it that has in some way implicated or questioned the behaviour of powerful entities, this legislation will make it easier to pull the wool over the eyes of the citizens just as they always have done in the past. They don't like it when they are exposed to the light.

The copyright issue is just another way of screwing the citizens.

Old failed business models of the past like the sheet music industry and quite soon the print industry are screaming as they wake up to the new realities.

They are attempting to curtail new freedoms introduced to individuals by the advent of the Internet.

New Zealanders seem incredibly ignorant when it comes to matters of personal freedom and how to protect their rights, it seems they have very few really because the country does not have a Constitution and is getting rid of as many ties as possible with England. Almost as if they have been programmed into it by their state schooling.
