| 729758 | 2008-12-16 19:16:00 | Bypass Picton and do Nelson Well I don't know about bypass, that would probably be difficult, but anyway... :D The drive to christchurch is much nicer from Nelson than it is from Picton too. Only 2 hours drive from blenheim, loads and loads of stuff to do. You could go south via the Queeen Charlotte Sound road (even if you've not going to nelson), thats a great drive as long as no one with you gets car sick. Needs to be done on a good day though, don't bother if its raining. As far as I'm aware the only touristy thing to do in Picton is a trip around the sounds on one of the mail boats, which is good fun. |

| 729759 | 2008-12-16 19:42:00 | Napier: Will you have a car? If so, drive to the top of Te Mata Peak, Hastings. Incredible views and you may see hang gliders or paragliders jump off. There is a track to a redwood forest that is supposed to be good. Also go to the National Aquarium. Wgtn - hang out on Cuba Street. Buskers and some good cheap eats. Drive around the bays (head towards the airport and keep going around, Sorching Bay, Lyall Bay, etc). |

Art deco in Napier, the gannets, wineries, etc. A shame if the Cadbury factory tour will be closed over that period. Maybe next time. Every place has an information centre, we usually head straight there. Once on one of those mystery weekends we arrived in Dunedin. Although I had spent many school holidays there I knew they could be helpful. They were fantastic, booking us on a trip to the albatrosses and also making a dinner reservation for us, at a dining place we chose. Then they called us to say the reservation had been made. Am going to whisper thisask Laura :D Have a great time. Cheers, Marnie |

Go to Cape Kidnappers and see the Gannets, either do it overland by 4x4 bus or on the beach either walking which is free or by a trailer hauled by a tractor. Lots of walks ie the Rotary pathway either walk it or hire bikes. For further info check these sites out. http://isitehawkesbay.co.nz/ www.napier.govt.nz :) |
