I remembered my service in 1951 (British army) so I drew her a picture of how we had to make our beds up every day with kit in superb condition - stuffed with cardboard and wood etc - you know the drill. Then I had a think - perhaps they do not do that these days! Shame. Perhaps now they just make their beds up the way you want to crawl into them at night. Anybody able to tell me the situation these days. Needless to say I hope its as mind bogglingly stupid as our methods were. It did me the world of good. It would her. |

I was not so lucky - posted to the Intelligence Corps where we were in what was a private house in Vienna we had to strip and box all our bedding material every day except Sundays. When we eventually moved into the barracks we were allowed to be like all the other regiments and make our beds down. Still being in the I Corps and having the other advantages made up for it. I would love a photo of a bed layout similar to what we had in the 17th Training Regiment Royal Artillery. Gosh they quickly converted a load of grotty teen aged layabouts into confident smart and efficient soldiers. |

| 729279 | 2008-12-15 22:04:00 | I actually thought 'Hooray!' when i finished basic training, no more bed rolls etc, then it happened all over again with our initial core training lol, wiped the smile off my face pretty dam quick! To be honest though, I loved every moment of it. |

To be honest though, I loved every moment of it. You're a nut Rob. I spent 3 years doing martial arts training and I never had to share a dorm with a bunch of other stinky sweaty other guys. I think I got the better than you! ;) |
