840151 2009-12-16 04:43:00 Hi all,

Looking to do a GPU upgrade around Christmas if I can afford it.
Currently have a 512MB 9400GT.
Win7 Score shows 4.7 for Aero and 5.8 for Gaming. CPU / RAM is at 5.0 so I know I won't be squeezing much more performance out.

Am I right in the following performance, with best being at top:
nVidia 9800GT
nVidia 8800GT
nVidia GTS240
nVidia 9600GT
ATi HD4670
nVidia GTS220
nVidia GTS210
Then my card at the bottom, the 9400GT

That sound about right?

Initially I was looking at the HD4670, but I'm an nVidia fan at heart... So, I've been looking at the GTS240 from PBTech, but if it's only another $10 for the 9800GT then yeah, I'm probably better off waiting another week and going for something better ;)

Thoughts / comments? I've been out of the "GPU Race" for a while now so my apologies if this seem's pretty basic ...

Thanks

Chill.

840152 2009-12-16 04:49:00 The toss-up:
pbtech.co.nz
pbtech.co.nz

A 512MB Card that's supposed to be faster, or a 1GB card...

Thing is, is it worth spending that on a Core Duo 2Ghz, Win7 x64, 4GB RAM?

840153 2009-12-16 04:59:00 I'm an nvidia guy too...but the XFX 4850 is a great price at PB... :p wratterus (105)
840154 2009-12-16 05:06:00 4850 for me. Pwns the 9800GT and GT240:D Blam (54)
840155 2009-12-16 05:27:00 True, except Borderlands is about the only thing I play:

Other than that, the 4850 actually looks pretty damn nice, same price as the 9800GT, but better "overall" performance for things like Left 4 Dead etc (Which I don't play)

840157 2009-12-16 05:49:00 Toms Hardware (www.tomshardware.com) have just updated their graphics card list for December, so you can sort of compare various cards to your list.

Not sure how well it would work though.
