839410 2009-12-14 00:39:00 I have setup 2 virtual PCs...
Server 2008 and Win XP Pro. I have setup the DHCP role on the server. I have put the network option as internal on the virtual pcs. But the XP does not pick up an IP from the server. It picks up its own random IP. If i assign the XP machine a static IP that's within the server's IP range than it works fine. But i would like it to pick up an IP automatically. What am I missing?

839411 2009-12-14 00:49:00 It'll be the routing, try unplugging your physical LAN cable, restart your PC, then see what happens :) Chilling_Silence (9)

The XP VM is getting its IP address from the host. It has 2 networks, NAT and bridged.
\Are you running the VM's under 2008 host, or is the 2008 box virtual also?...

You may need to add legacy NIC instead of normal.

The host machine is Windows 7. The server 2008 and XP are both virtual machines. Forgot to mention than I am not using vmware, m using MS virtual PC software. The host machine gets its IP from the router such as 192.168.2.x range. The server 2008 DHCP is set to 192.168.1.20-30 range. The XP picks up an IP such as 169.x.x.x Under settings for the virtual pcs, I have put the networking option as "Local only". Will give it another go when I get home.

Not sure about Virtual PC, trust me when I say its not half as good as VMWare player, however, local virtual switch means it wont see past the host to the router, therefore you will have to check the 2008 firewall, I have had issues on that with dchp, did you use a FQDN for 2008? try turning off the 2008 firewall!
I'm not sure how V PC running its local, as a local internal switch for all VM's, or only between host and VM

839415 2009-12-14 06:33:00 Actually, i dont think virtual pc supports an internal network as 2008 and esx does, only external to router or between host and vm which would isolate it from the other VM SolMiester (139)
