As I have said before I was born and bought up in Auckland for my first 21 years. (Westie) Auckland was great in the 40's to the early 60's, when I left there and ended up in Napier. Auckland has great scenery, great people, wonderful harbour and the West Coast beaches have got to be one of the most beautiful places in NZ. Apart from all that, Hawkes Bay is something special as well. So, after that, would I live there again? No, you would have to be mad to want that. To busy and to slow to get anywhere with all the traffic. Most of Auckland's problems have been bought on by itself. The trains should have been done when Robbie was Mayor, but he got voted out because he wanted to go ahead with construction. Have you ever met an Aucklander who would walk, bus or train in preference to his car? They hate paying the price of living in a big city it seems. I do a morning bus run as a retirement job here in Napier. Never been stopped by a trafic jam yet. Mind you, there was a morning when there were around a dozen cars stopped at Kennedy/Riverbend Rd intersection. That slowed me down a bit! I rest my case Ken :banana |
