730367 2008-12-18 23:29:00 Question. Are you any safer doing 50km than doing 55km ? We seem to have this thing that if we stick to the speed limit we will be safe. But our attention is now on our speed,
watching that speedo, so we don't go over 50. and not concentrating on the risks that are
ahead of us. Driving is all about risk management and sometimes we have to manage those risks by going above the posted speed limit. But that does not mean we should drive in a way that causes danger to other road uses. And you have to ask yourself will getting a speeding ticket change the way you drive, ie slow down. Yes in the short term
but after a while our speeds will creep up again to 55km. The police should be out in force pulling over unfit cars and those that are a danger to themselves and other road uses. Not your mum and Dad who is doing 55km.

My 2 or 3 c worth.

730368 2008-12-18 23:30:00 if the cops need the funds so bad PLEASE bring the speed camera up north. the amount that cruise past the schools at 70+ in a 50 zone :(

mind you whats really annoying is they cannot be bothered prosecuting people for tailgating and other dangerous driving but quite happy to snap ya a few km's over.
they need to get their priorities sorted. get rid of the bad driving and they will find they won't speed.

if you can't watch your speed then frankly you shouldn't be on the road at all. thats basic 101 driving, if you can't get that right then your a danger to everyone including yourself.

speeding is all about pushing the limits. trouble the next person pushes a bit more, then the next a bit more, then more, then more untill someone crashes.

if you can stick to 55 then you can stick to 50, its only a number.

anyone interested have a look at www.snapt.co.nz

730370 2008-12-18 23:39:00 IMO its far less safe having to be so strict on speed limits.

You spend far too much time with your eyes glued to the speedo, rather than watching out for kids crossing the road without looking.

730371 2008-12-18 23:52:00 2.5km later the cop was waiting at the end of the straight waiting for me

turns out at that distance he clocked me at 106kmh (i was doing 106 too)

so he pulled me up and gave me a warning and had a chat about the new kit and he even showed me proof that he got me at 106kmh

What was the proof?
A photo of your car with numberplate easy to read?
At 2.5km away he must have great eyesite!
Were you the only car on the road?

730372 2008-12-19 01:16:00 What a bunch of pathetic wingers!

You break the law and get caught, you pay . I was just done for the first time in years for speeding on a road that had recently been re-gazetted as a 60K zone instead of 70 because of a new school . I was doing 68 and thought I was well within the limit . Nice polite lady officer, my own fault, I should have read the signs . I made no excuses and paid the $120 fine .

You lot would be the first to complain and be screaming for blood if your child was knocked down by a speeding car, or your girlfriend, boyfriend, wife, parent or grandparent was injured by a speeder .

Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die .

Get a life .

Nice .

I've never had a speeding ticket in my 18 years of driving .
Can't even remember the last time I was pulled over . Was probably when I had my EVO . They like to pick on the "boy racer" type cars .

730375 2008-12-19 02:00:00 Remember the physics the faster the speed the bigger the mess.

If I remember my physics correctly, if you double speed, you quadruple the force required to keep the object in motion.

So, for example, if you crash at 75 km/h, the force is double what it would be if you crashed at 50 km/h.

Yeah, the faster you go, the bigger the mess is about right.

However, speed shouldn't be targeted as aggressively as it is at the moment. Bad driving habits are far worse in my opinion. Tailgating, dangerous passing, and taking the road code/traffic lights/stop signs/give way signs as a suggestion instead of the rules, and a 'me first' attitude seem to be much more dangerous.

730376 2008-12-19 02:09:00 You show me that they are doing there best to reduce bad driving rather then simply hanging out where its easy pickings for tickets and I'll be satisfied they are doing the job they are meant to be doing.

As far as fining a citizen $200 for an out dated license, that's disgusting. Did it make the world a better place to live in or is it just bully boys bringing in the dough? They must be too hardcore to just mention its something you will need to get sorted.
