First thing I do these days is check where it's made. If it's not a traditional kiwi beer (that is, it's an import knock-off made by NZ Breweries or DB), I stop buying it.

I don't drink Stella or Heineken any more - and there's a few other going the same way that I'll be sad not to drink in NZ again too.

I bet you couldnt say no to a cold Heineken after a hot day in the sun loading hay bales.

729509 2008-12-16 00:09:00 I couldn't agree with you more joncar. I've had Grolsch both here in NZ and in England. The English stuff is actually brewed in the Netherlands, while the NZ stuff it.. supprise supprise, under licence. :yuck: ubergeek85 (131)
729510 2008-12-16 00:15:00 Food prices in NZ are ****. Alot of foods groups tried to justify putting the prices up because of the price of oil etc, but now oil has come down food prices are still going up. Wtf? rob_on_guitar (4196)

They're aren't going up. World commodity prices have stabilized or actually fallen but so has our dollar which wipes out a lot of the price drops we would have had otherwise.

729512 2008-12-16 00:21:00 Still seems like they are far too high in the first place. rob_on_guitar (4196)

I probably could - if there was a choice. If Heineken was thing only refreshing beverage on offer, you're probably right

729514 2008-12-16 00:54:00 Carlsberg 18 Pack at Pack N Save, cheaper and a better beer by far. Normally around $15

Lol you've definitely erred somewhere there.

729515 2008-12-16 01:52:00 Noticed Countdown have/had a dozen Amstels for $15. Not often they're that cheap.

I prefer dark beers or stout. Not often you see them in supermarkets, let alone cheap.

729516 2008-12-16 02:13:00 Amazing how quickly the food part disappeared and it became a beer thread :) stormdragon (6013)
729517 2008-12-16 02:26:00 Stout's a food, isn't it? the_bogan (9949)
