| 731212 | 2008-12-21 10:38:00 | Parents bought a 2nd hand Electrolux upright freezer. Doesn't have anything to say what model. It has an LED display, leftmost marked F with yellow LED, off. Middle marked with a triangle symbol, red - on. Rightmost S ? symbol Green, off. Makes a whoosing? noise. Like wind. All the time. Its cold and freezing OK apparently but they are worried about what the noise means. Any ideas? Our fridge/freezer makes strange noises and has done since it was new. It works well (touch wood). I never really noticed the noise at first and it's not constant; possibly because there is usually other noise going on in the kitchen. Hard to actually describe the noise, often sounds like a whisper, or someone softly moaning in their sleep:D We often laugh about it being haunted. It's possibly coming from the fan. |

They seem to have an impressive vocal range. :2cents: |

Power On Green. The green light indicates there is power to the unit and must be on at all times; if the light is off, check your electricity supply. Alarm Red. It is normal for the red temperature warning light to be ON when the door is left open and after loading with fresh food or if the temperature control has been turned to a colder setting. The period this light stays on depends upon how long you had the door open, how much fresh food you loaded or how much colder you have re-set the thermostat. It will go off when the inside temperature reaches the required level. You need only be concerned with this light should you notice it is ON and the motor is not running. This would indicate a fault in the system and you should immediately contact your nearest Service Centre or the dealer from whom the appliance was purchased. From here www.electrolux.com.au May have a fan in the cooling coil inside making your wooshing sound (especially if the door isn't closing correctly). |

| 731217 | 2008-12-22 20:42:00 | Thanks Trev for at least one trying to be helpful reply. Unfortunately it doesn't. Its just a freezer, not a fridge/freezer and thats too modern - the LED is nothing like that. Its not seals. Its cold and frosty. Maybe too cold - they have only had it plugged in a couple of days so we don't know that yet. It took all thier money to buy it and their TV is being checked to see if its economic to repair as well - so I thought they might get a rough diagnosis here and save themsleves more money instead of getting a repair guy out. Either its nothing major or it is. If it si then they might as well ditch it. IF not at least I could put her mind at rest. If it has seals in it then they will certainly be noisy! Be careful tho because if they are sealions or sea elephants you will really be in trouble. |

| 731218 | 2008-12-22 21:45:00 | Where is the whoosing Noise actually coming from ? We had an old freezer years ago, and it made a strange sound most of the time- yet appeared to working correctly - in the end we got it checked out and there was a small leak around one of the seals which caused the freezing unit to run continually. |

You need only be concerned with this light should you notice it is ON and the motor is not running . Thanks . I've told them if its working OK, then don't worry . However if it starts to not freeze or freeze too much well then its got a problem . The seals seem OK apparently . |
