730347 2008-12-17 23:39:00 I thought you had to be going 5km/h or more over the speed limit to get a fine?Thats what I thought also - thats to allow for speedo not being 100% I thought ?? I do know a mate got a ticket a while back - 5 K over he said.

Mind you with the amount of Miles I do its the only ones in the last 2 years.

Well thats the 3 this week  or :crying which ever way you look at it - two tickets and the Mrs windscreen in her car needs replacing on Monday -- Thank god for insurance this time.

730348 2008-12-18 03:07:00 Yeah I thought that you had to be 15% over the speed limit for the cameras to snap you - they must have changed that. 4 - 5 kmph over is not 15% of 50 kmph. Deane F (8204)
730349 2008-12-18 03:08:00 Yip I hate the and it's things like this that justify my hate 4km/h 5km/h that's just crazy, they should be out catching real criminals.

Hey Radium, as far as the calling them "pigs" thing, it is attitude like that that that sours the public/police relationships. There are good and bad in all walks of life. Who knows, out of all the subscribers on this forum, you and a few others might be complete ****holes, and other members, real gentlemen/ladies. Or, vice versa as the case may be? You shouldn't judge everyone the same.

Can you blame them for letting go occasionally when Joe Public has no respect for them?

730351 2008-12-18 03:25:00 They are never about when the real speeders are around  I live on a main Road - 50K speed limit - and I can tell you some times the speed people are doing past here is shocking - If any little kids (or adults for that matter) stepped out onto the road theres no way they could stop in time.

Theres a couple of people some nights between 11PM and 1 am come through must be doing close to 100 I reckon, you can hear them coming and winding the speed up.

Wouldn't mind having a set of those spike strips --- evil eh!!:D

730352 2008-12-18 03:37:00 From the police speed enforcement guide

www.police.govt.nz

6. Use of discretion
Police must apply a consistent approach to the enforcement of speeding offences in order to achieve reductions in road trauma and to ensure that our actions are fair and transparent.

A consistent approach enables Police to recognise reasonable variations in speedometer accuracy across the public national vehicle fleet, while providing motorists with certainty of outcome should they drive at inappropriate or excessive speeds. The following principles apply, other than in exceptional circumstances:

Drivers detected at a speed of 11km/h or more above the appropriate speed limit must be issued with the appropriate infringement notice or summons.
Drivers of heavy motor vehicles detected at a speed of 6km/h or more above the appropriate speed limit must be issued with the appropriate infringement notice or summons.
Drivers of vehicles towing light trailers detected at a speed of 6km/h or more above the applicable speed limit must be issued with an appropriate infringement notice or summons.
Drivers of vehicles detected within school zones at a speed of 5km/h or more above the applicable speed limit must be issued with the appropriate infringement notice or summons.
Drivers of any vehicles exceeding the speed limit by less than these stated thresholds may be issued with an infringement notice if their speed presents a risk to public safety in the prevailing circumstances.
These principles do not constitute a mandate for drivers to exceed the speed limit. In many circumstances exceeding the speed limit by any amount will pose road safety risks.

With these guidelines I would expect speed camera fines would not be issued to vehicles travel at 10 kph or less above the posted speed limit.

730353 2008-12-18 08:09:00 I've heard 2 similar stories . Obviously the thresholds have moved .

Personally I think it sucks . How many peoples speedo's are going to be accurate to that degree?

No, just in the top 15% of speeders in that area.

730355 2008-12-18 08:38:00 Well this is interesting - they say it was in the vicinity of a school zone -

NOW what do they class as a school zone - as in distance from a school - because the area the mufti cop was sitting is right next to a main road / link 80Km/h - Around 75-100 Mtrs away from that motorway .

The nearest school would be , travailing at 50 K about 3-5 minutes away . May seem a short time but drive at 50K and see how far 3 - 5 minutes is .

The bull sh*t paper says
drivers who travel more than 4 Km/h over the speed limit around schools and preschools will be ticketed-no excuses which is fair enough - as I have school a aged kid as well, and I'm always more alert around those areas .

To answer the question how many got "pinged" I got it both ways leaving the area and coming back .

ticket numbers all the same except the last 3 numbers

Leaving area time 1 . 28pm Number ****303 Returning area 3 . 02 pm Number****904 so simple maths 1 . 5 hrs approx = 601 tickets at a min of $30 each 601 x $30 =

From the enforcement guide already linked

"# The Speed Kills Kids Programme targets speed offending within 250 (two hundred and fifty) metres of primary, intermediate and secondary school boundaries and any pre-school that has road signage. Site selection processes must be completed in the case of speed cameras.
# Notices will be issued where drivers are detected traveling at more than 4km/hr over a speed limit within a school zone.
# The Speed Kills Kids Programme is being progressively extended in 2007 to include pre-schools, such as kindergartens, childcare centres, Te Kohanga Reo etc. Once zones have designated road signage is in place, Police officers will enforce these zones. Site selection processes must be completed in the case of speed cameras."

You might want to retrace your steps and see which bush the road signage is hidden in.
