839288 2009-12-13 21:57:00 I am running Win7 64 bit and MSFlightSim 2004.

Loads and runs a little better than when I was using WinXP.

Did you have any problem with installing FS2004 into the 64Bit version of Win7?

839289 2009-12-13 21:58:00 No.

No, except the DX support.

No. None of them are.

Yes.

Actually, 7 is faster than windows xp simply because you can load it up with RAM, unlike XP (x64 XP wasnt crap)

839291 2009-12-13 22:09:00 Most "benchmarks" Win7 and Vista are slightly faster than XP (Vista has got better over time with patches), there is a BUT coming!

The "user" experience Win7 is faster than XP esp with a decent machine, and XP does seem to slow down more as apps are added.

The User experience with Vista is worse than XP or Win7 because of the default junk and serives it has running by default. It also has poor disk prioritisation and Netowrk performance which makes it a bollocks OS for serious users.

There is a diff between benchmarks and user experience.

839292 2009-12-13 22:28:00 Well I'm going to disagree with everyone saying yes Windows 7 is faster :D

Its more a sliding scale, the better the computer the more windows 7 will outperform XP (and the slower the pc, the more XP will outperform windows 7).

So on a decent new machine windows 7. Older/Slower keep with XP. Hard to know without supplying machine specs.

839293 2009-12-13 22:44:00 Windows 7 won't run faster than XP on a 1.2Ghz Celeron with 512MB of RAM though

I have a stripped down version of XP on a 550Mhz PIII which still runs faster than Windows 7 on the 1.2Ghz Celeron in question

Sure old computers use the older OS windows XP with a smaller foot print.

Computers that have 2 gig+ of ram and Core2 Duo, X2,X3 or quad above maybe 2..5Ghz(all ish) use Windows 7.

As above i think there is a sliding scale involved.
