839109 2009-12-14 02:40:00 If you have an unused 32bit XP licence maybe you could try that instead, not sure if it would work but can't see why it wouldn't. Maybe someone more knowledgeable will either confirm it or shoot me down in flames

Yes it is possible to use your own license, Nathan pointed me to a link a while ago.

839110 2009-12-14 02:44:00 You could use vmware convertor, to convert your current pc into a virtual version to use with vmware player, also free to use with windows 7 as not ever version has xp mode....

Hi

You don't need to use VMWare for any of this

Microsoft provides a free Physical to Virtual conversion tool - Disk2VHD, which will even operate live while you are using the old machine, and even allow you to save the exported VHD back to the same volume you are capturing from

Sysinternals Disk2VHD technet.microsoft.com

then you can download Virtual PC 2007 SP1
www.microsoft.com

or Windows Virtual PC and create a new VM with the VHD as the disk from above process
www.microsoft.com

Thanks
Nathan

Virtual PC supports a maximum virtual disk size of 127GB. If you create a VHD from a larger disk it will not be accessible from a Virtual PC VM.
