So speeding bastards just cause more carnage. Its physics faster you go the bigger the mess. There is an opt out clause for speeding fines and you may not know it about it but that option is not to drive above the speed limit. Amazing clause isnt it ? |

| 730448 | 2009-01-03 21:04:00 | I think speeding tickets (and all other road fines) should be a lot higher. In Norway not stopping for a pedestrian on a crossing is 1500 Krona ($370NZ) speeding tickets start around that as well. No one seems to speed and roads there and most have a speed limit of 75kph. The government here should come out and say that speeding tickets is a revenue gathering exercise - very much like a stupidity tax...... If you don't like speeding fines what about change the rules so if your caught driving outside the road rules then you have to resit your license. That way we are reeducating bad drivers. The road toll is high because people break the rules. |

Amazing clause isnt it ? Well I must be a speeding bastard then, I tend to watch the road and the environment around me, and adjust my speed to suit the situation. And that can mean driving slower than the speed limit. And if the risk is less then I can increase my speed to a safe level. And Remember no accident can be caused by simply exceeding a number on a pole. (Speeding). Such a suggestion is contrary to law of physics. And who says that 50 80 100 are safe speeds how did they came up with those numbers. |

Road speeds are set by the government under guidance from the LTSA, AA and local councils. Do you do 40 kph in school zones? the 40kph is not to keep you safe, it's to keep the children safe, ie those others who make mistakes. So just because you can drive faster than the speed limit and still think you're safe, how do you stop others making mistakes? I'm sure everyone that has died in a vehicle accident thought they were driving safely!! |

But I dont really care if you englanders speed and kill yourself its your country you do what you want. |

I can drive on the motorway in NZ at 100kph, yet here in the UK I can drive on the motorway at 113kph, Both have traffic flowing in the same direction, crash barriers in place etc. So the UK motorway must be unsafe according to NZ. And sometimes you might need to do 30kph around a school. |

| 730456 | 2009-01-05 04:36:00 | I have been driving for 15 years and have never had a speeding ticket ...... because I do not speed .... would not speed. Not just because it is the law but because I could kill someone else or be killed and thats a very selfish thing to do. It is the law so abide by it or get off our roads. |
