729346 2008-12-15 18:41:00 I think you might find that they are Nikon cameras and not Canon.

The Nikon D90 is 12.3MP which should be very good. The D200 is an older model which I thought got replaced by the D300

Also Canon 50D or 450D would suffice.

Keep in mind the DSLR's are heavy cameras with the body and lens, she would need to keen on photography to warrant a heavy camera.

My wife complains about the weight of her Kodak Z740. And she will not carry my Canon 30D with all it's lenses.

729350 2008-12-16 13:06:00 Nikon or Canon, both are good makes and the selection of which comes down to personal preferences and prior experience - myself a Nikon man since my first Nikon F in the early 60s. KenESmith (6287)
729351 2008-12-16 19:02:00 The canon 450D has a plastic body which makes it light to handle also look at the Nikon D80 as well. wmoore (6009)
729352 2008-12-16 22:22:00 Really, unless one is into specialty photos a compact is more likely to capture unexpected photos because you can easily slip it into your pocket or her handbag when going out. You need to be really keen to carry an SLR. Compacts give really good results for most people Ofthesea (14129)

I agree. My wife's been using a Canon S3IS for two years and has been so frustrated with it,so her Christmas present this year is the Panasonic TZ15 with no viewfinder,a large back lcd screen and 10x zoom. And it'll fit in her handbag.
But I still prefer the viewfinder method.
