732131 2008-12-24 01:24:00 Any recommendations on the best Univeral Remote control to get.

I would like to control a Panasonic 26" TX-26LX70 LCD TV
and also a RDR-HX750S HDD-DVD recorder. If it can also do Sky Digital (MySky) then well and good.

I currently have a Logitech Harmony 525 in another room for a couple of other devices, but just wondering if there is something better for these relatively new'ish devices.

732132 2008-12-24 03:53:00 I can't offer any comparisons but I use a One-For-All universal remote that controls TV, VHS recorder, HDD recorder and audio system. There are various models that control different numbers of devices. From memory mine cost about $70. The NZ support is excellent - both telephone and email. It can learn from an existing remote, and also has presets for many devices. It also has a macro facility that allows you (for instance) to turn all the above units on and off with a two-button combo. It is probably not as sophisticated as the Harmony series, but it is also considerably cheaper. Tony (4941)
732133 2008-12-25 07:18:00 I work for an AV / Security company and we sell Universal remotes that cost up to $2000. I have a logitech 525 at home and I can honestly say it is as good, if not better than the ridiculously priced remotes that we sell + program.

The only difference being that the ones we sell are fully customizable and have fancy color touch screens etc.

While the harmony series isn't fully customizable, it will work for about 95% of situations (in my opinion).

Go for a better harmony if you want, but another 525 will do just the same job!

I realize this is now an old topic, but having said how good the One-for-All support is, I have to report it seems to have gone downhill. It looks like the NZ support has disappeared, and it is now coming from Germany (I think). I have recently submitted a support question via email, and it has turned into a bureaucratic nightmare - so far I have had to resubmit the original query 3 times, in different forms! Still no issues with the product itself, I think it is v good, but a pity about the support. Tony (4941)
732136 2009-01-07 21:23:00 Thanks Tony.

I already had a Harmony but that is in use in another room.

I ended up getting a Philips one. It has a big screen on it, but very disappointed with it really. It is very heavy, very big and it has basic support in it for learning stuff, unlike the Harmony range that plug into a USB and d/l the latest info.

I should have got another Harmony remote. But it is done now so never mind.

732137 2009-01-07 21:34:00 The Harmony seems like a smart product. The OFA devices have the (considerable) advantage of price, but don't have fancy screens etc - at least mine doesn't. Tony (4941)
732138 2009-01-08 02:34:00 I bought one of these about a year ago because my partner hates all the remotes everywhere in the lounge.

It works well my partner can't use it though she yells at it.
And my nephew keeps asking if he can play streetfighter on it.
Must admit I kind of like all 11 remotes everywhere must be a man thing.

I have one of those too but don't really like it.
It works fine but needs more hard buttons so would prefer the Harmony One.
The One also looks like a traditional remote.
