840379 2009-12-16 19:58:00 Hi,
Hope some one can help with this prob of mine.

I've just changed ISPs from Orcon to Telstraclear. I was using Orcon's homehub which was very reliable (i kinda regret changing to Telstra) with good speeds of around 400Kbps when tested with speedtest.com.

I bought a new Linksys WAG54G2 wireless gateway for the new ISP.

Since then I've had unreliable online speeds. Have spent considerable time with the tech support at Telstra, they say it's a prob at my end (don't they always say that?!). However I'm partially convinced that it may be my end.

When connected the linksys shows a download speed of 2547Kbps on it's status page when I log into it. But when I do a speedtest it shows an average 163Kbps. I use wireless but have tested the same with a lan cable and got similar results.

I have a asus laptop with XP sp2 and a IMAC with Leopard 10.5.8

Regards Joe
Hope you can help

It's on the same physical line, yes? What *were* you getting with Orcon? Do you know if your modem is actually sync'ing as ADSL2+ or as ADSL1?

That's unfortunate. They really are a pile of crap.

I recommend you do a line isolation test, basically unplug all phones in the house from the wall socket, remove all filters (the ADSL modem doesn't need a filter to operate, just the phones need filters).

Also what is your upstream speed? and what plan are you on?

sourceforge.net
Try the file:
WAG54GV2-AU_v1.02.14-Pluto-DSP7.bin

Hi,
I was getting 400Kbps with orcon.

How do you test if it's syncing as ADSL2+?

The Ping is around 61

The upstream is around 70

The current downstream is around 200

I'm on the Call local base plan with max speed and 25gb data

Have done an isolation test..no change...but it was a dramatic change when we changed from orcon.

So the Linksys is rubbish, what would be a better wireless gateway?
