732926 2008-12-30 04:29:00 The latest Xbox 360's (Code named 'Jasper') have smaller chipsets and as such, less heat. In theory they should minimise, if not eliminate, the RRoD issues. However, finding one is the issue. I've heard of plenty of people buying the Arcade bundles, and having a Jasper unit in the box, but apparantly other SKU's are starting to be packed with Jasper consoles.

Search Google, apparantly it's not too hard to tell if your getting a Jasper or not. RRoD hasn't been an issue for me to date. Not because I haven't had one (My premium RRoD'd after about 8 months) But I picked up an Elite for HDMI when they came out, so always have a back up.

As for Dick Smith... I no longer support them. The mailer says buy one game, get another of equal or lesser value for free. Go into TWO stores here in Christchurch and they have a sign up saying it only applys to select titles with gold stickers on them. The selection with Gold stickers is rubbish. They are just the games no one buys... not because they are expensive, but they are just no good. Staff didn't want to hear about it when I showed them the mailer (that was in a stand at the front of the store)... Didn't even appologise for the innconvenience. Certainly wasn't happy about driving all the way accross town for nothing.

(PS: Sorry about the poor grammar and spelling) :(

You could make a compliant to the commerce commission, as that is misleading advertising . It is very easy to make a compliant via email . If you let them get away with it, they will continue to do that sort of thing . I encountered a similar problem with another retailer recently and it seems retailers are becoming more sloppy in the way they advertise and what they think they can get away with . Alot of these retailers that have this questionable advertising, are Australian owned and run companies that do their advertising out of offices in Oz, so they have different standards of advertising, and what they can get away with . Unfortionately the CC get a lot of compliants sent to them, and they have limited resources, so a lot of these retailers can get away with it .

PS . You could also contact DSEs head office about it . I had an issue with DSE many years ago, where they were advertising a mobile phone in a mailer for a certain price . When I got to the store there was a sign next to the camera to say that it was incorrectly priced in the mailer . I emailed DSEs head office, telling them I had made a special trip to buy it, and they let me have it at the price .

732929 2009-01-02 01:33:00 You guys really rock me with your comments. If the advertising in store states selected titles then that is what is offered. Gold dots pink dots or as high lighted, it doesn't matter.

All you cheapos are after is free stuff. It is simple to understand that they wouldn't offer newer games for free. It will be the hard to move titles. But hell something for nothing is still a good deal.

Don't give the staff a hard time, experience has told me that it is usually someone in a head office somewhere that has stuffed up and the poor bloody staff are left to clear up that miss.

I do notice on my visits to both DSE & HN that they are always putting up appology notices. You think that someone would get it right the first time dont you?

I have been into both the Columbo St & The Palms branch in Christchurch and bought games this week and never had a problem. Each time they have given me the 2nd game for free without complaint. Different at the Papanui Branch though, The manager there really wanted to argue the point so I left and went to The Palms for the games.

The kids are happy so I'm happy !

get real guys, nothing is for free these days......

732931 2009-01-02 02:00:00 The mailer says, Massive Gaming Clearance, buy one get one free. Anyway I bought Need For Speed Under Cover and got Crysis for nothing.

732933 2009-01-03 01:13:00 Sure it's been mentioned here before, but it bears repeating - extended warranties are a load of old cobblers. Everything they provide is already covered under the Consumer Guarantees Act.

But if you ever try to take any big store to task over the CGA, you will have to be prepared to use every waking moment for months to fight them. If that is too much work for you, get the extended warranty.

Most places are willing to give you the extended warranty for a fraction of the price they first try to sell it to you at.
