2008-12-23 21:12:00 | My son used to be a ski field snow safety guy. He came down to the carpark to find a brand new Subaru had been lovingly rearranged by keas. They had slowly munched their way through the windscreen rubber until the windscreen fell in. They then had access to the interior of the car, which is a rare treat. They trashed everything inside... Imagine coming down to drive home in a blizzard and finding that? :D | John H (8) | |
2008-12-23 21:12:00 | DoC is gradually replacing lead head nails on their hut roofs in the South Island because the keas are getting lead poisoning from eating them. Somehow from the results of the question I posed, lead headed nails don't seem to be such a bad idea. :groan:

2008-12-23 21:26:00 | Thats more believable than keas pulling nails out with their beaks Yeah, they only eat the heads - they aren't stupid like Galahs. And SJ, they don't eat the whole sheep - they tend to focus on eating the fat around the kidneys, so don't be a scaredy cat. Mind you, they have been known to goad the sheep into running over a cliff, thus stopping the sheep struggling whilst they get at the fat, so it isn't all good news for foreign tourists who tend to have quite a bit of kidney fat, and who are thereby attractive to our feathered friends. It is only a few rogue kea who do the sheep thing. It tends to be one older bird who learns the trick and teaches the family. DoC will allow a hit job on these rogue kea, to stop the problem spreading. Now that you have our attention SJ, google Haast's Eagle - the biggest eagle in the world. It has been known to carry off children. If the google results say the bird is extinct, just remember not to believe everything you read...

2008-12-23 22:20:00 | That star is between Upper Hutt and Wellington. Is there also a Lower Hutt? Now...zooming in a little closer in "Hybrid" mode I see that you have accidentally sent me to a forest. A dark forest. A VERY dark forest. Is this in response to something I might have said to displease you? There is a Lower Hutt which I will be going to in early January. The star is Butterfly Creek but when I clicked on it I found myself on a map of the USA. I sent you to a forest as I liked tramping in New Zealand bush and you were sent to the forest on purpose rather than by accident. No snakes live there. You could hunt pigs and deer way back and I thought I walk over the hill would do me good. You have not displeased me in any shape or form.

Last time I got left in the woods was with my sister . We left a trail to find our way back with bread crumbs <it's a little foggy . . . let me remember> but the . . . er . . . yeah! That's it! The Keas ate the bread crumbs and we got invited into a home by a witch . . . but I don't remember much else until I was trying to load Linux Ubuntu into my computer and . . . . then . . . . . . . . . . . a bony finger and some candy . . . . and I was chewing on the side of the house . . . . an oven . . . . . and then . . . . . <POP!> I was here! . . . . . I think that might have been a movie though . But that's why I am somewhat hesitant about the woods . |
