You want F&P - buy one thats actually labelled F&P, not Elba. Elba is their own brand name for F&P products made entirely in their chinese factory. Much of the electronics of their F&P branded product is also made in China but the rest is made and assembled here. For how long is anybody's guess. I still prefer it over the competition. In June 2006, the Italian cookware business Elba was acquired from DeLonghi for (NZ$158 million). Elba has since been renamed Fisher & Paykel Appliances Italy and exports to over 54 countries, focusing on the UK market. |

| 731765 | 2008-12-29 07:29:00 | I don't think F&P have a manufacturing plant in China. F&P was one of the first NZ companies to set up an electronics manufacturing plant in China. If they have since withdrawn I haven't heard about it, but I was a regular visitor to their manufacturing facilities during that set-up period. Elba is just a name for Euro-recognition purposes, where it is made and what it is attached to is up to F&P to decide. AFAIK you can buy an F&P Smartdrive or an ELBA Smartdrive. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

I was told that by a retiler, who didn't recommend their dishwashers. Boshe are supposed to be the best ones, as recommended by consumer |

| 731768 | 2008-12-30 01:54:00 | A few months ago when we wanted to purchase a new dishwasher we were discussing Elba v Fisher & Paykel, with pricing differences. Helpful assistant said they were made by F&P, demonstrated one of the differences by knocking on the inside of each door. F&P was decidedly quieter, indicating what the noise level would be like. There were, of course, other differences, but quietness was a priority in this case. He didn't have to spell it out, but the quality is a two-tier thing. If Elba suits someone, then that's fine. I am with Billy's comments re F&P production "For how long is anybody's guess" I hope for our sake, and possibly their own, that they they don't forget their roots. |

Cheers Billy 8-{) F&P now prestige overseas brand, NZ gets 'Elba' 5:00AM Monday May 12, 2008 By John Drinnan Fisher & Paykel has stepped onto a marketing tightrope, rebranding a big part of its New Zealand output as "Elba" while preserving the old Fisher & Paykel brand for top-end products. Those products - including top-of-the-line washing machines and dishwashers - make up the bulk of the overseas sales planned to be a big part of the firm's growth strategy. Standard or "everyday" products are focused on New Zealand. The company says the transition is necessary because the Fisher & Paykel brand was being required to cover too many products and brand values. The Elba-branded products have the additional tagline "by Fisher and Paykel". The change is unlikely to have much impact on overseas sales, but it is significant for this country where Fisher & Paykel has been named New Zealand's third-most-trusted brand. Elba is being positioned as a "genuine and honest brand" but separate from the quality branding of Fisher & Paykel, while retaining customer service and after-sales service. There are subtleties to the change. The company says some of the Elba products were actually made by other manufacturers, as has been the case when all products were marketed under the F&P brand. A company spokesman said outsourcing material was common in whiteware and there were no issues for people who bought products because of their Fisher & Paykel branding. He said the outsourced products were a small part of the company's line. He noted that up until the mid-1990s F&P products had been marketed as separate brands such as Kelvinator or Frigidaire. The company started manufacturing its "everyday products" in January and consumers would now find all of them carry the Elba brand. |
