731751 2008-12-22 05:10:00 hi guys, just back from overseas and am having to buy some new stuff for the house. I need to get a new fridge / freezer and a new washing machine. Dont want to pay more then 1000$ for each item and would prefer less if poss.

I have seen some elba machines at noel leemings and they are apparently made by fisher and paykel. Also seen some Simpson washing machines and some Samsung as well (thought they only made lcd's and phones) that fit the budget.

Anyway if anyone can recommend something good for me or steer me away from something bad it would be muchly appreciated.

Thanks

731752 2008-12-23 03:24:00 Fisher and Paykel - might be screwing NZ over job-wise but they still make a product as good as everyone else out there. wratterus (105)
731753 2008-12-23 03:45:00 Yup - F&P are still pretty good. When we bought our how in April we got an Elba (exactly the same as an F&P, just without the flash handles etc). It's good as gold; quiet, dry etc. nofam (9009)
731754 2008-12-23 05:19:00 Have had an F&P washing machine for about three years, goes great and is light years ahead of our previous Simpson (piece of junk) Ofthesea (14129)
731755 2008-12-23 08:16:00 cool, thanks for that. Hopefully there will be some good boxing day sales on and I can pick up a bargain. Barnabas (4562)
731756 2008-12-23 09:30:00 I got a Simpsons combo when i got back from overseas, 6.5L and dryer ($750-$800 together), used them once or twice a week fine for a couple of years, got married couple of years ago and the wife then used them once or twice a day fine, then we had a baby a year ago and the wife has been thrashing the **** out of them since....and they are still going fine.....amazingly. 731757 2008-12-23 17:55:00 Elba is not actually F&P. Well - it may be. But the Elba label is just their re-branding and could be anything. So be wary. You want F&P - buy one thats actually labelled F&P, not Elba.

I bought a Hoover - because it had rotary controls - rather than push button electronic. Still going well after 5 years...........

731758 2008-12-24 01:34:00 Not Smeg. My current apartment came with Smeg appliances (except for the Simpson fridge and washing machine which are fine) The Smeg dishwasher doen't work properly, has to be manually stepped through its cycle. The Smeg oven is crap according to my partner.

A friend has a Smeg dishwasher which works OK... but he has to open it with a cold chisel and a mallet as the door handle brike off a week out of warranty...

Up at my rental I have F+P appliances which never give any trouble.

731760 2008-12-26 19:34:00 thanks guys, I went out in the sale madness yesterday and got everything I needed for some pretty good prices. Stuck with Fisher and Paykel even though there were some, like Simpson and Samsung, that were cheaper. If anyone else is looking I can recommend going to hill and stewart as they had the best prices out of all the major retailers.

Happy new year

B.
