734904 2009-01-04 07:08:00 our neighbour has installed a cctv camera on an ariel stand on the roof of his house. it kind of points down into his front yard but also kind of points across the road into some of our and our neighbours windows. any ideas what the rules are with this type of thing re. privacy laws etc. i know with city councils they have to advertise install of cameras and wait for submissions if any.

cheers

734905 2009-01-04 07:30:00 There allowed to put it up, in fact they can have a camera pointed just about anywhere they please. What they cant do is use any footage for evidence in any criminal proceeding.

To be fair to your neighbor you have no idea exactly what the camera is looking at, just the general direction it's pointing. They probably have it zoomed in on their yard. How about going over there and saying you're concerned and ask to see the feed?

734906 2009-01-04 07:48:00 1. Is he big, Maori, and does he wear coloured bandanas ? (either red or blue ?)

If so, I suggest you don't do what pine-o-clean says !

2. Are there lots of cars arriving all day long and night at his house ?

If so I suspect he has need of security because of his profession !

What should (s)he do instead, may I ask?

Personally, I would get a few neighbours (group power) along to find out more about the content recorded from the CCTV camera.

Cheers :)

Isn't that the whole point of a CCTV camera??

734911 2009-01-04 19:34:00 Whats the difference is there if the neighbor looks and stores the carry ons in his brain or uses a camera and stores it on a harddrive.
You can buy these systems quite cheaply now so I suppose more people will get them

734912 2009-01-04 20:02:00 Look at it this way. He'll see the burglars and have the pictures recorded. pctek (84)
