734467 2009-01-02 19:40:00 I bought a 42" plasma tv last week and i note it has five fans in the back to extract the heat as it gets very hot believe it gets hot nearly burn't my finger just touching the back of it where the fan is, What i want to know is has anybody experienced a higher power bill from these tv's it says it consumes 435 watts of power from the power socket be interested in your opinion. Otherwise Panasonic make fantastic viera plasma tvs should have got one earlier find it better than lcd tvs now.

734468 2009-01-02 20:01:00 Gee, that is a lot of power. If you had 2 of them it would almost heat your room like a 1000W heater.

Made me look to see what my LCD used as I am on a power saving crusade lately. (Filthy swine power companies)
Here are the specs of my 32" Philips LCD...

•Power consumption: 128 W
•Standby power consumption: 0.9W
•Mains power: AC 220 - 240 V +/- 10%
•Ambient temperature: 5 °C to 40 °C

734470 2009-01-02 22:05:00 Do you find that your tv puts out a lot of heat i find if i close the door to outside it gets hot in here very quickly so will be cosy in the winter with a high power bill i guess. Hitech (9024)
734471 2009-01-02 22:19:00 I must admit I am puzzled as to why people bother with Plasma at all. VERY expensive - huge electricity consumption, and I can clearly see how jerky they are with missing bits etc. It's very noticeable that almost always they are showing cartoons in the shops - even then they have a poor jerky picture. Plus the fact they have a life of about 3 - 5 years at the most. Must appeal to those with lots of money I suppose, who want a BIG picture no matter how poor.
LCD seems a much better option and in fact is what I had to switch to when I found that there was no decently sized "tubed" TV for where I wanted to put one. But I have been impressed with the picture. Its a Sony.

734473 2009-01-02 22:47:00 i disagree thomas with your comment the tv i have is a panasonic viera the picture is way more stable and very sharp and clear than the previous sony tv i had the plasma i have also has no motion blur which is what lcds suffer from badly and also the plasma has a life time increase now of 100,000 hours viewing which at 8 hours a day is 30 years viewing which blows your comment of 5 years right out the window read this .

At 42”, the state-of-the-art TH-42PY800 is the baby in the Full High-Definition Plasma range – but it has all the strength of its bigger siblings, with a panel life of around 100,000 hours . And all that time, VIERA minimises power consumption by maximising efficiency depending on what is being displayed .

You’ll find it hard to look past such a gem .

Not my comment Hitech .
Just what I have read in a few Consumer reports which are as we know unbiased .
I have however noticed some improvements and I am quite sure all areas have been looked at and are better than they were . But even so I watched one recently and could easily see the missing bits of picture . Irritating .
I do have an extremely fast reaction time which lets me see things others may not . At three police demonstrations on three continents I have been able to beat the fastest reaction times by the police demonstrators .

My Sony LCD TV is truly magnificent - if I have a very slight moan it is that the contrast is almost too good and I like the softer look of our old big heavy Sony TV - but like many things the old Sony was not perfect and has lousy sound - the newer TV is much better .

Can I make a request please .
You have a shift key on your keyboard - please use it - it makes life so much easier for those of us from a more enlightened age .
