733716 2008-12-30 19:28:00 I was quite surprised they didn't get a roasting from authorities in the NZ Herald for being unprepared. They were foolish to the point of being suicidal but no criticism is being forwarded quite amazing dont know why.

Not enough life jackets
Disregarded weather forecast of gale force easterly winds
No GPS
No spare fuel container
No charts
No vhf marine radio (cost $140)

733717 2008-12-30 19:39:00 These pea -brains should have their boat & equipment confiscated & sold to contribute towards search & rescue costs then be billed for the remainder. Unfortunately it always seems to be you and me (the taxpayer) who ends up carrying the costs for these idiots!!
Maybe a short term in the 'slammer' to help wake up their ideas too..
