| 841403 | 2009-12-20 06:01:00 | I just upgraded my motherboard but the new one only has 1 IDE port, and I use 3 IDE (optical) drives. I am looking at buying one of these adapters, eg: www.trademe.co.nz Can anyone comment on their effectiveness\quality etc? |

The picture on the Trademe site shows an unusual drive labelled as IDE, but with SATA style connections, and with them alligned top to bottom (vertically), not side to side (horizontally) as in 'normal' PATA drives. I can't tell from the image of the card whether there is an IDE connector or not. There are other options, albeit more expensive, which can give you support for 2 IDE cables (4 IDE / PATA drives) AND in some cases 2 SATA drives as well, all from the one card. | 841405 | 2009-12-20 08:08:00 | I bought a similar one from Trademe, It had two jumpers,Two lights,and a switch....Nothing labelled,No instructions. I plugged it in, It didn't work. I spent half an hour on it, never even figured out if I had it switched on. Binned it. |

There should have been descriptions of the jumpers screened on the board at least |

"metla" gives a good example of some of the issues with some of the scam junk on trademe at the moment. Although that seller has a huge + feedback there has been a lot of trouble with him dropshipping and many of his auctions have been withdrawn by admin. Seller feedback stopped painting a true picture on trademe years ago. |

Only the one IDE port on my new motherboard, plus I had 3 HDD's, so I got one of these; en.vipower.com But I found it difficult, or almost impossible to get spare cartridges, so I bought 2 of these; www.trademe.co.nz I didn't need the racks, as I didn't want usb, just put my HDD's into the cartridges, and then into the rack already installed and I was away:eek: They are "hot swappable". Great for backups or running alternative OS's. Also, I have a SATA drive permanently installed. |

| 841412 | 2009-12-20 19:17:00 | They are using 40 pin ata also, which is so old!!!!, most newer IDE drives are 80pin!.... If it were me, I'd by a SATA optical and be done with it! $50 edit - or get a PCI IDE add in card! |
