841269 2009-12-19 21:06:00 Have Ubuntu on my old desktop and after "playing"with Puppy Linux I now get this error.I think maybe dureing the play I may have installed Grub to a USB flash stick
but this will no longer boot either. And live CDs will not boot.
Grub boot error
No such disc>
I have reset the cosmos but still get the same error. Is there a command I can put after the>to get back to normal or at least boot a live cd.
The Ubuntu forum answers so far have been no help.

841270 2009-12-19 21:32:00 It sounds like you will have to go to the BIOS setup and tell it to boot from your CD, for a start. rumpty (2863)
841271 2009-12-19 22:14:00 I have been there done all that.I should add I am in no way a novice with Linux having used it since Red Hat was just a youngster but this has me beat. kjaada (253)
841272 2009-12-19 22:54:00 Have you got the USB stick still plugged in?
If so try removing it.

841273 2009-12-20 00:47:00 You will probably have to reinstall the GRUB bootloader. Blam (54)

How can I do that when I can not access anything. Can it be done somehow from the command prompt after the > ?If so how. I have tried several commands but am a bit lost.I tried "update grub" which is the command for the new grub2 but,No such command or similar came up.I do think tho that you are on the right track.

No USB stick involved it was in my lappy over the whole time as it holds important info
and I did not want it stuffing up also.
