734914 2009-01-04 20:17:00 There allowed to put it up, in fact they can have a camera pointed just about anywhere they please . What they cant do is use any footage for evidence in any criminal proceeding .

why not?

plenty of camera footage gets used every day in court including that taken by video cameras in shops, even tourist taking pics of people properties .

734915 2009-01-04 21:33:00 I think you're all forgetting the most, simple yet effective thing you can do. Put up your on camera. Face 1 directly at his camera. Face another 3 directly into his front windows. Face 1 at his front door. And face 1 at that hot chicks bedroom window next door.

Wait, what were you concerned about again? Privacy or something right?

734916 2009-01-04 23:55:00 As WolfForest22 says, I too would point a prominent camera in his direction. See what he says.

But why buy a real one, unless you want to? I'm certain an imitation camera would be much cheaper and just as effective.

But do you really think your neighbour is all that interested in what you do? Hell, no! Much too boring!

Unless you have some sweet young things cavorting naked in your yard I would not really thing that he could give a damn what goes on at your place.

734917 2009-01-05 00:09:00 If your neighbour was up to no good you wouldn't see the camera. It would be well hidden. plod (107)

Yes but to use fixed camera footage in court, you must have warning signs up that say you are recording . I'm assuming he doesn't have this .

734919 2009-01-05 08:44:00 He's providing free CCTV for you :) If you don't like it just hang a mirror or a CD on your window, it may make them harder to see your house during the day. :) SuSu (12582)
734920 2009-01-05 08:58:00 Just get a flood light and shine it at the camera all day. Netsukeninja (13296)

734922 2009-01-05 10:22:00 So if you are right which you aren't, the cops couldn't use footage of cctv say of a woman getting raped as evidence in a court. If the camera didn't have a warning sign.
Sounds like bull**** to moi.
Then again Exeloo who make self cleaning pay toilets got taken to court by a crook because the door opened when a girl was being molested inside. The door opens after a certain time in case some one collapses inside.

734923 2009-01-05 11:00:00 You could do a couple of things.
If he is approachable, ask him, he may just be wary of trespassers on his property. Any recent burglaries in the area?
Get in touch with your local Citizens' Advice Bureau. Most of those have information, or access to information, on a huge range of things that may be of concern to you.
As has been pointed out, people can drive along filming all nature of things.
A little yarn about the late David Lange. He and his wife were overseas and realised their movements were being 'observed'. When asked what he did, he said "we undressed slowly"!!
