734625 2009-01-03 10:18:00 Just adding to Limepiles comments - There was a thread about the same subject a short while ago - ever since that - I've kept an eye so to speak - its amazing the NOBODY on the main road gives way to the car turning right as described above. (that I have seen anyway)

Shortly after that above mentioned thread - I was the car turning right onto the main road, Even the cop in the line of 6 or 7 cars turning just went through - would have been "interesting" had myself or someone else gone when the others were meant to have given way and had an accident.

I spose its easier to give way, even if you're in the right, than have a prang.

Hmm. A main Rd. And a car turning into it from a side rd or drive. And the cars on the main rd are supposed to stop?
I can see why no-one does.
Sounds like common sense to me, whatever the rulebook says.
I sure wouldn't pull out expecting anyone to wait for me.

734627 2009-01-03 20:23:00 Be a good way to get insurance (agreed value) money on car just pull out in front of them and you are in the right.
To be honest I didnt think the rule applied to driveways and shopping centre roads.

734628 2009-01-03 20:45:00 According to this (www.landtransport.govt.nz) Blue gives way to red 3rd pic from the bottom. --- Seems wrong some how. wainuitech (129)
734629 2009-01-03 23:27:00 Good rule of thumb which is law here in 99.9% of situations:- IF your Drivers Door might get hit in a maneuver then YOU are in the wrong.

This will change if/when the right hand rule reverts back if the law gets passed.

There is no provision in New Zealand for a "Main Road Rule" Most times main roads will have Stop or Give Way signs, but in any case where there isn't one the Right Hand Rule applies. If no sign exists then Give Way to your Right.

Er..no. Red doesn't cross blue. Blue would cross in front of Red.
And Red is a bus or truck, so I wouldn't argue with it.

734632 2009-01-04 00:01:00 Looking at the picture it seems to have a red light with a green right arrow which means the red car will have a red light and therefore must give way to the blue car.

www.imagef1.net.nz Thats a Controlled intersection - which means the lights govern who goes when.

Another way of looking at it (especially if you are driving/riding a more vulnerable vehicle):

"Better to be right than dead".. :)
