I would hate to die just because my airplane got a BSOD and the pilot couldnt overide the thing. They need a big red button with a yellow and black striped guard over it that you push to override everything electrical and electronic. Any hint of a control problem push the BRB (big red button) then fly the plane on manual. Just like you first did when you learnt to fly the right wing drops pick it up with a little left aileron, nose drops pull back on stick. lose altitude push throttle forward etc etc. Back to basics is whats called for. You would need another button to summon superman to operate the controls manually.(Or a bus driver)with arms like Arnold. |

There are a lot of jobs - money - "mana" (for the want of a better word) on the line if the excreta hit the air conditioning fan. Who knows? Or am I just a conspiracy man? Ken |

| 734597 | 2009-01-05 10:14:00 | Air bus designers thought they were smart buggers when they designed fly by wire with no mechanical backup. About as smart as builders of houses in Auckland with no eaves, untreated timber for decks and low density pine for trusses. |

| 734599 | 2009-01-05 18:36:00 | Despite all of these incidents recently, air travel is still one of the safest forms of transportation available. Think about how many flights come and go from Auckland airport every day, versus how many accidents happen. Compared with trains, buses, cars, boats, the rate is virtually zero. | somebody (208) | ||

If the Airbus was as bad as you make it out to be the FAA and other countries would of pulled it out of the air long ago. :) Exactly right Trev. We need to keep things in perspective here. There have been over 5000 Airbus aircraft delivered and in operation by airlines all over the world. More than 8,000 Airbus aircraft have been ordered by more than 280 customers. |
