734615 2009-01-03 02:24:00 Hey,
If anyone of you have the OFFICIAL NZ ROAD CODE BOOK FOR CAR DRIVERS, 2008 EDITION. Then can you please help me with an explanation as to why does the blue car have to give way in Question 197.

All help appreciated thanks!

734616 2009-01-03 02:35:00 IF it's the same pic I found when Googling....turning traffic gives away to traffic going straight ahead.

But then if the blue car is bigger than the red car, or has bull-bars, then might is right and the blue car gets right-of-way.

EDIT: Have looked again....is the blue car sitting on a green arrow pointing right???.....if so, bluey has right-of-way. The red car will be sitting on a red light.

Hopefully.

734619 2009-01-03 04:04:00 Note the red traffic light.
Though some NZ drivers think that red means you can still go provided the way is clear

I thought the red was there for careful use only, when you run out of the yellow one!!!

734622 2009-01-03 07:55:00 Our car is booked into panel beaters in couple of weeks because my wife had the audacity to stop on an amber light.
The lady with a uninsured jap car kept saying no one ever stops on a yellow at this set of lights.
Bloody lucky I got a tow bar on it when we bought car, stills its 1500 damage because of 2 little creases in the hatch and tiny damage to plastic bumper.
The ladies husband said it wouldnt cost any more than 50 to touch up.

734623 2009-01-03 08:15:00 just had a look through that road code - heres one that half the younger idiots around here will fail

Music
Don't play music in your car so loudly that you can't hear:

.the sounds your car is making
.emergency sirens
.the sound of warning bells or trains when you're coming up to a railway level crossing.

734624 2009-01-03 10:10:00 A car is turning right out of a main road and a car is waiting to turn right into the main road, who gives way? 99% of NZ drivers don't know.
A car wants to turn into a super market car park. Does it treat it as a road ?

The car on the main road gives way. I know this as a fact due to the road rage I exhibited one day.I challenged the other driver to accompany me to the local library to look up the rule in the road code. I had to shake his hand and apologise.

Any car crossing a footpath, any driveway qualifies for this one, has to treat it like a ped crossing...foot traffic has right of way. 99% don't know that one either.
