841990 2009-12-21 19:02:00 Hi all.
Vista Buisiness on a Dell Insparon 1501.
Updating this work laptop after reinstalling Vista following HD failure but SP1 will not install. first attempt it did not get past initial setup.
I get this message
Error 0x80070078
See article 101139.
Checked the MS article. Suggested disabling FW AV etc
for second attempt after disabling the above it failed during restarting.
One part of the article said that if it was for installation on a single machine, to do it through automatic update.
Some of the suggestions in the article said to let Widoze download and install it through automatic updates but SP1 is not showing in the update list so I downloaded the stand alone service pack.
How do I get Automatic update to do its thing

841991 2009-12-21 19:21:00 Well since you've downloaded SP1, you may as well install it, then reboot. Then let it finish. Then see if windowsupdate works Speedy Gonzales (78)

Ok sequence
While searching for SP1 read note about letting AU do it.
Went looking for it in AU
As I could not find it I downloaded and ran the stand alone.
First error message.
Read article
Disabled FW AV etc
Tried install again.
Same message.

Are you magic Speedy?
Just looked at AU again and bugger me there it was ?????????????????????????????????????????
It was not there before I started this thread so will see what happens.

841993 2009-12-21 20:33:00 How is it going now?? Sometimes, if you've installed updates (before a SP), and you dont reboot when it tells you to. Windowsupdate wont work either. Until you reboot, it updates. And you check for updates again Speedy Gonzales (78)
