736801 2009-01-09 23:51:00 Greetings Folks and non folks.

Bought the wife a camera a year ago, it doesn't suit so I'm looking to get her a new one. (selling the current one for $70 if anyone is interested, been used about twice, its a pink Samsung S630, 6mp)

www.photosales.co.nz

Anyway.

Criteria for the new camera.

Inbuilt battery
Uses SD card
Sleek
under $200 preferred but not a deal breaker
MP shouldn't be an issue as they all seem to be at an acceptable level
Likewise zoom,3x optical is perfectly fine.

Any suggestions?

736802 2009-01-10 00:02:00 I recently bought a Panasonic LS80 Duty Free in Oz for $99 (seen it on special just after Xmas in NZ for under $150). Takes an SD card, uses AA batteries. 8MP, but I set it to 5MP - more than enough pixels for my need. Excellent results johcar (6283)

Best budget buy
Model: Canon PowerShot A470
Price: $220
Good points: Best in test for manual image quality. Very good battery life. Good auto image quality and ease of use. Good versatility and movie quality.
But: (No obvious bad points.)

736804 2009-01-10 00:23:00 Thanks, but won't be looking at one that uses AA batteries. Metla (12)

What is it that doesn't suit with the current camera?

736806 2009-01-10 03:53:00 AA batteries.... Metla (12)
736807 2009-01-10 05:29:00 I'm not sure why you would have an issue with AA batteries. Were you using disposables by any chance? They don't work very well in digital cameras. Digital cameras need nimh (nickel metal hydride) recharable batteries.

You're going to struggle to find anything decent for under $200 as that is really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

736808 2009-01-10 06:48:00 Are you looking for a compact purse/pocket type cam? Having just carried a Canon Ixus around the NI on my motorcycle, I can say that compact is king. The only downside (and it wasn't an issue) was also carrying a charger for the proprietary Canon battery. Never needed it. Winston001 (3612)

Looks perfect, The fact she can pick a colour should seal the deal.

Cheers.

736810 2009-01-10 07:16:00 Canon Ixus - superb little camera. Have not had any problems with mine, great pictures and will fit in your shirt pocket. Safari (3993)
