736113 2009-01-08 07:26:00 I don't blame the students. Heck I don't even remember the marks I got for school c. The only marks that really matter in school are the last years marks. Get enough to get into university and your fine. All the rest become insignificant rather quickly. pine-o-cleen (2955)
736114 2009-01-08 07:59:00 NCEA is a bloody disgrace. Made worse by the fact students simply don't have respect for teachers and teachers can't do anything about it. qazwsxokmijn (102)
736115 2009-01-08 08:35:00 I don't see the problem.

If you pass NCEA before exams, then you don't need to go to your exams.

Granted, you SHOULD though (imo)

I had 79 credits before exams (need 80 to pass) and I went to all my exams, did my best, and came out with way more (useless tbh, except for 20 above 80 which count towards level 2) credits.

Let me explain the problem.

I know I’ve posted this previously but it’s worth repeating so you know where NCEA places you.

Friends of our family had had enough of NZ and headed for Aus.

However, their eldest daughter was halfway through her last year at school and wanted to finish her schooling here before following her parents. Therefore she boarded with us.

Her ambition was to become a Lawyer and she duly passed all her NZ examinations so she could enter University and follow that path. Problem was when she got to Aus they wouldn’t recognise her NZ qualifications and told her if she wished to attend one of their University’s she would have to qualify by passing their entry examinations. Her NZ qualifications simply weren’t recognised.

Now there was a time when NZ qualifications were respected and recognised world wide but not anymore.

To make matters worse a lot of our larger firms are writing their own entry exams, such is their distrust of the National Exams.

So, in a week or so thousands of kids are going to get a piece of paper that is recognised by commerce as useless.

Great. :o

736117 2009-01-09 00:39:00 WolForest has explained why he thought not having to sit for the NCEA exams is all right, while you have explained how NCEA qualifications are not respected elsewhere... Renmoo (66)
736118 2009-01-09 04:46:00 i think ncea is a joke (finished year 13 in 2006)

it doesnt really give a reliable result anyway in most subjects because of the 3 simple levels of grading instead of percents, up until year 13 i was a smarty pants but on paper it didnt stand out

I've just Googled "NCEA in Australia" The results completely contradict what B.M. has just posted.
So who is telling the truth?
