735600 2009-01-07 00:14:00 Up until Christmas, my gmail account was almost spam free, but since Christmas I've been getting several spam emails a day from WalMart - I think that's the US equivalent of The Warehouse. The gmail spam-catcher which is excellent otherwise, seems incapable of snaring them.

Anyone else had this?

735601 2009-01-07 00:31:00 Haven't seen any Walmart spam on my Gmail account... johcar (6283)
735602 2009-01-07 00:45:00 I don't think Walmart can be equated to The Warehouse. It has both low-end and high end products. My Brother in law is on the Board of the UK/Europe division of Walmart.

Either to try to compare it by size or product range makes The Warehouse look like a very very small corner store, or even a stone beside a corner store.

Walmart is the world's largest retailer.

From the tone of your response, you obviously feel that I have impugned the reputation of your brother-in-law and therefore by implication your goodself . This was not my intention .

Had I realised there were people on this forum who have a brother in law of such eminence, I would been much more careful in my phrasing .

Perhaps I could put it a different way:
Why is your brother in law sending me spam? And what has he done to gmail that enables the spam to get through the spam-catcher?

735604 2009-01-07 02:52:00 After the spam servers in the states got closed end of last year I have had no spam at all in my spam folder whoever they were I'm glad they were shut down. gary67 (56)
735605 2009-01-07 03:19:00 Tideman - are you sure it is legitimate Walmart mail, and not someone just spoofing their (apparent) address? I wouldn't have thought an organisation the size of Walmart would need to resort to spam . I imagine they have huge departments full of people engaged in normal, legitimate marketing practices .

DISCLAIMER: I do not have any family or other connection with Walmart or its subsidiaries :D

735606 2009-01-07 03:26:00 You're right. The sender was:
ShoppingGiveaway@ditrichum.com
and the subject line was:
Someone has sent you a $1000 Wal-Mart GiftCard!

My question is: why has gmail's spam catcher let this through?
And why does the spam catcher continue to let such stuff through when I have told it such emails are spam?

I blame Bantu's brother in law.................

735607 2009-01-07 03:42:00 Probably Google's fault as much as anything since they own Gmail. Although my Inlaws are somewhat weird I doubt they need to resort to spam to stay filthy rich.

Try mail washer or something similar that might block unwanted stuff.
