735388 2009-01-06 05:14:00 Is it just me? Or is the quality of Sky's picture deteriorated in the time since the changeover of the satellite last year? A lot of their stuff looks like it is a poor quality movie from the thirties that hasn't been cleaned up.

I have being following the Aussie v SA cricket during the series and today I did my prunes. The quality of the picture has been abyssmal in my opinion. A bit like the quality of the soccer transmissions that the soccer fans screamed about a year ago.

Of course, I rang Sky and asked if there was a problem and made my comment about the quality and was asked to do a reboot and check all the connections. I explained I had just done this as I was an old hand with Sky's decoders but still had to do it again. Almost got a "Do you want fries with that Sir".......

Arrrrgh, I get mad with some of these people at times.

Anyone else with similar problems? (Not the heat effect that comes late in the day that a lot of people have noticed.)

As a point of interest, Freeview satellite is still giving a great picture!

735389 2009-01-06 05:18:00 Are you using mysky hd?
I noticed when I switched from telstra cable to sky that the non HD channels on sky weren't as good as telstra cable. Have also heard similar comments from people going from ordinary sky to mysky Hd.

735390 2009-01-06 05:32:00 No, I just have a Pace decoder. I am not interested in Sky HD. I am not into movies and my only sports are rugby & a bit of cricket. Other than that I would not have it at all as the doco channels are turning to custard with repeats and American bias. If the sports quality doesn't get better Sky and I may part our ways after 15 years or more!

This seems similar to the before and after difference when they changed to the new sattelite last year. It was pretty crap before ththen, and improved afterthe change.

It seems like they are cutting down the signal quality as they increase the number of channels. Also it can take up to 5 minutes to set a channel for recording using the booking function if the date I want is 5 or 6 days away.

The quality of Sat. Freeview blows it away and the pictures both come from the same bird.

735391 2009-01-06 05:44:00 How are you connecting the Sky decoder to your TV?
Composite or S-video?

735392 2009-01-06 05:44:00 I'm watching the cricket right now and the SD picture looks pretty good even on my LCD, though I am watching it over Scart > Component. DarkCypher (11945)
735393 2009-01-06 05:58:00 Looks fine here via Scart cable in SDTV
The source feed is HD and its downscaled to broadcast on Sky Sports 2 looks pretty fine to me even on 4x3 set letterboxed.

735394 2009-01-06 06:18:00 Have you checked your signal strength in the Sky setup.
Doesn't take much at all for your dish to go out of alignment.

Nothing wrong with Sky quality. You don't have Sky yet you feel able to comment on it.
I am quite satisfied with it. Compared with the snow and ghosting that we had to put up with years ago it is great quality.

Some people seem to have short memories and are never satisfied.
