843363 2009-12-27 04:28:00 I was at a mates place and was playing MW2 on my laptop when we had the genius idea of plugging it into the 50" TV! So we plugged it in via HDMI and set it to projector only and set the resolution to 1920x1080. So we were playing it (with Xbox controller) and after about 30min or so my laptop just turned off!

I felt under the laptop and it felt cold (I had a cooling pad underneath) so I wasn't sure weather it had turned off due to overheating or not!

So overheat or not?

843364 2009-12-27 04:31:00 I would've checked speed fan for temps but I clean installed a few days ago and haven't installed it yet. xyz823 (13649)

Power management maybe?

Did it turn back on?

Was set to high performance. Lid was open. And it turned off like when you pull the power cord out of a desktop. And it turned back on after I hit the power button lol. Although first time I went to turn it back on it turned on the off again after 2sec.

843368 2009-12-27 05:50:00 I've found that my graphics drivers kick the bucket fairly regularly with MW2, meaning I have to restart the comp.

My carefully volted, OC'd computer had to go back to fully automatic settings, which fixed the problem. A crying shame.

I'm wondering if I need to update my GPU, a factory OC'd XFX 9800GTX. Might see how it goes, but I'm aiming at a (now scarce looking) 4890.

843369 2009-12-27 05:55:00 It sounds like overheating symptom, certainly.

Reinstall Speedfan and try again, see what happens...

843370 2009-12-27 20:54:00 The fact that the laptop turned itself off after two seconds of being switched on does indicate that it was overheated. Renmoo (66)
