842693 2009-12-23 20:03:00 No there is a grey handle in the front of the toner. Pull it and it will come out. Just did it then to mine. Did it say leave the printer on? nedkelly (9059)
842694 2009-12-23 20:09:00 Had that the other day -- the whole drum and toner first comes out as one unit, I had to lift it up slightly first, it then slid out - then Push down green lever on left and the toner kind or rotates up and out from the drum (or should) It was a little tight. The manual does say make sure the printer is turned on. wainuitech (129)
842695 2009-12-24 05:58:00 I've helped a variety of people with their computer and printer issues, and seen some howling boo-boo's done by noobs, and your printer woes have reminded me of one.

A guy I help couldn't print from his inkjet... so he went and bought a laser printer (turns out all the trouble with the inkjet was... a paper jamb! But it was beyond his scope to troubleshoot.

Anyway, he loved his new laser, until it stopped printing.
He managed to remove the drum assembly (which also holds the toner cartridge), and took it to the shop. The shop sells him a toner cartridge, and tells him "that is all you need".

So he goes home and pops the cartridge into the huge hole where a drum assembly and cartidge normally sits... it's loose and rattling around in there... and he's wondering why it still won't print!

So I get a call, visit and try not to laugh out loud when I find a lone toner drum sitting inside the printer. I install the drum into his cartridge, and place the whole lot back in the laser... and then remove the paper jamb that had again caused his printing to stop! Advised him to keep the used cartridge, as it still had plenty of toner.

Honestly, if you guys only ever work from your stores and workplaces, rather than from people's homes, then you have no idea how many crazy little things can be barriers to beginners.

I once diagnosed a computer that wouldn't start as only needing the user to press the on switch on the computer (as opposed to the wall switch that they had used up until then).

Yep know what you mean - I go to peoples houses - sometimes its hard to keep a straight face -- But some things regarding PC's and printers and how they work (or dont) are completely foreign to some people. Thats life ;) wainuitech (129)
842697 2009-12-24 08:08:00 Try fixing copiers.

There is nothing like having a copier in bits and having someone come along and ask if they can do a copy.

Plus many other stories.

The machines may be getting smarter but the users seem to be getting stupider.

842699 2009-12-24 09:11:00 Just remember that there is always a plan B if you cant get it out.

Go out back and proceed to smash it with a sledgehammer until it IS out.

My dragon said that was exactly how the computer tech did it.
She said it was a bit tight and I was probably pulling it like a nana in case I broke something.
She put the toner back in and made dragon pull it out so she could show me, thought that was a nice touch and didnt charge anything.
