736566 2009-01-09 00:36:00 Microsoft are letting out only 2 . 5 million keys for win 7 but there is not limit as to how many downloads they send out . Where do you get that information from - look at the OFFICAL MS site here ( . com/blogs/MainFeed . aspx" target="_blank">windowsteamblog . com) under downloading and Installing it clearly states
On January 9th, the Windows 7 Beta will be available for Windows enthusiasts to download via the Windows 7 page on Windows . com . The Windows 7 Beta is going to be available download-only (we’re not sending out physical media) and available for a limited time to the first 2 . 5 million people who download the beta .

pcuserwinvista ---

When you get to the download page you register - MS sends you the product key and the download comes through . Even the Beta Vista's had product keys, and while you can install it without one, it lasts only 30 days then you need to rearm it or reinstall it - W7 Beta is only valid till 1st Aug 09 any way
Also, another important thing to keep in mind is that the Windows 7 Beta will expire on August 1st, 2009 .

736567 2009-01-09 00:39:00 Hitech is most likely correct in that you should be able to download the DVD images regardless of whether you've registered or not (it will probably be a non-authenticated HTTP download). Nermal (7077)

Well unless somehow anyone can read that it will be available after 2.5 mil downloads, and thats what MS is saying on their site - as proven above - then where is the information coming from saying it will be available after that - if it is thats good but so far theres been no proof to back up the statement it will be.

How about linking the page that says it will be available after that time frame.

736569 2009-01-09 00:48:00 It'll likely be up for a while, to give people time to download it etc. I certainly don't expect it to be there forever, but the download links should be valid for much longer than the key requests.

Anyway, so far my boss has managed to bluescreen it already :p

736571 2009-01-09 02:47:00 Well IMHO this has to be the least buggy OS i have ever seen it's seem pretty flawless so far. Hitech (9024)
736572 2009-01-09 02:51:00 its not to bad - some things dont work yet - but thats to be expected in Beta. wainuitech (129)
736573 2009-01-09 03:10:00 I think so Ditch xp upgrade to 7.

I don't know if this was meantioned so far or not but from M$:

The version of Windows 7 Beta 1 that Microsoft (NSDQ:MSFT) made available for download on its Technet site Thursday does not support upgrades from systems running its Windows XP operating system, according to a first look at the available code in the CRN Test Center.

It does, however, permit upgrades from Vista SP1 to Windows 7.

A Microsoft spokesman said that no final decisions have yet been made about what will be included or not included in the generally available version of Windows 7, but that the company as a practice advises only clean installations of operating systems during the beta phase anyway.

For now, the beta version of Windows 7 only permits upgrades from Vista SP1 -- meaning there is at the moment no way to test or evaluate a straight XP-to-Windows 7 migration.

"We've just been telling people like we always do, conduct a clean install. That's the safest bet anyway," the spokesman said. "It shouldn't be too much of a surprise."
