736132	2009-01-10 22:07:00	I did Cambridge for 3 years. Its an alternative to NCEA and is conducted by the CIE- Cambridge International Examinations. This means that our syllabus is different, there is no internal assessment and everything hinges on the final exam at the end of the year. You get one resit and that's it pretty much. Generally, Cambridge classes would be about 1-1.5 years ahead of their NCEA counterparts. Its a lot harder but far more recognized in the world. Something like 120 countries conduct these examinations. More and more schools in NZ are offering as well as a way of really teaching students a proper curriculum and not just giving them endless internal assessments and exams that you can just resit over and over again. Oh, and you can actually fail in Cambridge as opposed to that "Delayed Achievement" crap in NCEA. Thanks Beeswax, that explains what I wanted to know nicely. :thumbs: My interpretation of the situation is that schools that have the students welfare at heart and have the desire to teach, use Cambridge Exams, whilst those that don’t care, as long as their pay turns up, use NCEA.
