735408 2009-01-07 19:29:00 Seems alright to me. 40" Sony Bravia.
:)

You must have bad eyes. First thing I noticed when I got my 46" Sony Bravia TV was how bad most of the channels were. Macro blocking which indicates low MPEG2 bit rates. The exceptions are the movie channels which look good. Sky Sports has it's days.. Some good some bad..

735409 2009-01-07 19:45:00 Yep 40" Bravia here, looks gawd-awful most of the time.

Sky Sport 1 has been looking pretty good for the cricket recently though.

735410 2009-01-09 00:02:00 Try watching the rugby on their UHF channels. The quality is not great.
The cricket and everything else is fine.

I can only assume it is to incourage us to get SKY digital.

735411 2009-01-09 00:27:00 i have been thinking the picture quality was bad when i first saw it, i was thinking it was horriblewhen i got a 42" HDTV and now think it looks like a pixelated special effect after i got freeveiw HD, i will think it is so bad that its not even worth having it plugged into my TV when i get blu-ray and i will think sky has gone out of business when i get my next tv because i will be ignoring it so much pcuser7895 (12979)
735412 2009-02-03 22:54:00 I had Sky Digital installed yesterday, and the quality is absolute rubbish.
I have a 40 inch tv with built-in Freeview, which gives a perfect picture when watching through Freeview. But the Sky channels look like you are watching an old broadcast from the 1970s or something - its awful.
I am not impressed with this at all, I was going to call them but after reading this thread it sounds like it is normal...
Does anyone know what the signal strength should be???

You are comparing the Freeview|HD service to standard Sky Digital.
If you want a better Sky picture you need MySkyHDi.
You could also check that you are connecting your Sky decoder via component inputs on the TV and not the standard composite (yellow, red & white) cable.

735414 2009-02-03 23:53:00 once you've been watching HD movies, going back to regular TV just doesnt quite feel the same ...

It feels the same if ya have FreeviewHD!! :p

Thanks, I will check the connections on the decoder.
I would like MySkyHDi but can't really justify the price. Sky also promotes normal Sky Digital as having a 'Crystal clear picture'. Whilst I certainly don't expect the perfect picture from this I thought it would be significantly better than it is.
