NCEA level 3 results are recognised (as were Bursary results) by the Australasian Conference of Tertiary Admissions Centres (ACTAC) as the basis for determining students' entry to Australian universities, provided that applicants also hold University Entrance"

I guess the veracity of the content of a government website is pretty much assured. Having said so, I am not saying B.M. may be lying to us; instead, the scenario that he has described could be one of the odd things that happen from time to time.

Cheers :)

736124 2009-01-10 00:24:00 When we hire young people for the office I dont even look at NCEA.
I just ask them to spell a few words like specific, plough etc.Do some long division, multiply 4 digit numbers, add 4 digit numbers. Capital cities of USA, Germany, Indonesia. Ask them to make an Excel spread sheet using formulas to add up columns.
Check formating skills on MS word, they must have learnt auto numbering and can insert a picture.
No smokers, no tats, no black tee shirts like Harley or Jim Beam, have not said the word bro or choice, car if they brought it along wof and rego.
Given up looking at NECA waste a time like at Cambridge where that chick principal gave out credits for picking up litter.

736125 2009-01-10 02:33:00 I’m told that some schools have dropped NCEA and gone for what I think is known as the Cambridge Exams. This was in response to what I originally posted about.

Can anyone explain briefly what these Cambridge Exams are about and how they fit into the scheme of things?

From the sound of the post above yours, you get credits for picking up litter.

736127 2009-01-10 06:21:00 I don’t think the Cambridge High litter incident and these Cambridge Exams are related.

But I’ve read that quite apart from getting points for picking up litter, some schools award points for talking in class (It means your communicating or something) and, it is not necessary to use English when sitting Exams. TXT speak is fine as long as the marker can understand.

Mind you, not having to sit any Exams at all sort of negates most difficulties.

I always thought that the "Dumbing Down of the Nation" was a "Conspiracy Theory", but I’m not so sure now. :D

I did Cambridge for 3 years. Its an alternative to NCEA and is conducted by the CIE- Cambridge International Examinations. This means that our syllabus is different, there is no internal assessment and everything hinges on the final exam at the end of the year.

You get one resit and that's it pretty much. Generally, Cambridge classes would be about 1-1.5 years ahead of their NCEA counterparts. Its a lot harder but far more recognized in the world. Something like 120 countries conduct these examinations.

More and more schools in NZ are offering as well as a way of really teaching students a proper curriculum and not just giving them endless internal assessments and exams that you can just resit over and over again.

Oh, and you can actually fail in Cambridge as opposed to that "Delayed Achievement" crap in NCEA.

736129 2009-01-10 10:13:00 re Cambridge exams .
Pardon me if I seem a little rude .
I've been out to dinner with some friends and had a few drinks .
If people post on this forum I assume that they have access to the internet .
Why don't they use it to get information rather than ask questions here?

736130 2009-01-10 11:07:00 Googling is handy and quick but this way they get exactly the information that they need and they can get someone with personal knowledge or experience answering the questions. beeswax34 (63)
