2009-01-06 00:21:00 | Just talked to my cousin who is considering coming to NZ next year. He has experience in law enforcement. He is wondering if working as a cop in NZ is enjoyable and exciting?:thanks | SuSu (12582) | |

Besides being understaffed, no budget and powerless due to the tree huggers in the 'hive and been painted by the media as criminals who look after none but their own then I guess its ok. Very tongue in cheek for you funsters... |

2009-01-06 01:29:00 | Get to do lots of cool stuff. We take the Nelson and Blenheim police caving once a year usually down Harwoods hole once they have been caving with us a few times. The idea is to give them an idea as to what working conditions we have when doing a cave rescue as the police run all SAR management | gary67 (56) | |
2009-01-06 01:52:00 | He's quite keen after looking at the new cops recruitment website. The 50k starting salary isn't low compared to most jobs. | SuSu (12582) | |
2009-01-06 02:16:00 | No, in fact $50K is well above what most NZ'ers earn in fact, and it only goes upwards from there. Rob wasnt being entirely serious ;) I would have become a policeman if I wasnt doing youth work, as for the first two years you are on "beat patrol" or something, and you work all funky shifts. Have a mate who became one about a year ago, he loves it, says the other police are great to work with, you do interesting things every day of the job, and he's stoaked as :)

2009-01-06 03:10:00 | Is working as a cop enjoyable? Sure it is - if your friend has the guts. I have had a couple of family members in the police over some years. Does he enjoy walking around in other peoples' blood and s_hit at 2 in the morning? How would he respond to collecting and identifying all of the body parts from one of the many fatal motor accidents? Collecting the bodies of infants murdered regularly by their so-called families. Or from one of the many house fires? Visiting people to tell them that their nearest or only family members have been killed in one of more ways than you can think about? You read of an extra couple of hundred police personnel on duty to handle drunken louts at, say, Queenstown. Ever think of their families at home for Christmas without their father? One of the policemen I know reckoned that he was in the police for more than eleven years before he had a Christmas and New Year free of duties. Yep. I reckon the job is a piece of piss really and they're far too overpaid at 50K.
