| 843297 | 2009-12-26 22:54:00 | AMD Turion X2 RM-74 (using Siw) My laptop temperature is usually between 50°C-70°C but some times it goes as high as 85°C. How hot should my cpu be? thanks, |

Often you can get programs that interpret the sensors (there are a lot of variations) badly and give a false reading. For example, I have an Asus board which when read by Speedfan comes up with a non-existent sensor at -125°C (everything else is sensible though) |

| 843300 | 2009-12-27 00:11:00 | Siw says 66°C right now. Tried SpeedFan and Coretemp, they say 66°C too, I wonder if its a false reading | Sting Ray (15196) | ||
| 843301 | 2009-12-27 00:29:00 | If the reading is inaccurate but all the programs display the exact same temperature then it won't be the programs, perhaps the BIOS is interpreting the status wrong and relaying the incorrect reading to the programs (though I am not exactly sure how these temperature readings are obtained and if the BIOS has anything to do with it or not) I assume your laptop has a cooling fan, is it working and free of dust? Does the BIOS have a temperature reporting item in the setup menu? What is your laptop brand and model? there might be a manufacturer-supplied sensor information program which gives a correct reading (it could be they do some funky sensor access routine that the other programs don't know about and thus end up with the wrong number) Or the BIOS itself might need upgrading if it is the cause of any inaccurate readings. The problem of course is that we don't know if the reading IS inaccurate... |

| 843302 | 2009-12-27 01:13:00 | Two of my friends, both laptop users, started over heating which dropped performance massively, they both brought one of those cooling pads from trade me. They're cheap, not loud and do the trick | Mister (15201) | ||
| 843303 | 2009-12-27 01:50:00 | I have never had a laptop, nor do I know what the temperature is supposed to be. But my PC temp is in the sixties most of the time and on occasions in the high eighties. On that basis I wouldn't worry. If your laptop starts to burn your lap, then start worrying. |

They're cheap, not loud and do the trick If they didn't overheat before and did now, the problem might be dust. Laptops have a habit of sucking it in and getting clogged up with it. Some are worse than others, depends how the air intake is designed and what you are sitting it on most of the time. I have never had a laptop, nor do I know what the temperature is supposed to be. But my PC temp is in the sixties most of the time and on occasions in the high eighties. On that basis I wouldn't worry. If your laptop starts to burn your lap, then start worrying. If that was your CPU temperature then I would advise you get a better cooling solution, as high eighty degrees for a CPU is bad. If it was your GPU (video card) temperature then I wouldn't be surprised, though. Currently my CPU is idle at 26°C but video card is 50°C |
